Role Description
We are looking for an Associate Lawyer - General Litigation to work based out of our Kelowna, BC office with some flexibility for work from home. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing a diverse file load, including your own book of clients, providing legal research and analysis, drafting pleadings, contracts, and other legal documents, and preparing opinions and correspondence for clients. The role involves appearing before courts and tribunals as required, negotiating settlements, and participating in mediations and other dispute resolution processes. You will maintain regular communication with clients, collaborate with colleagues across practice areas, and contribute to business development initiatives such as networking, seminars, and client outreach.
Qualifications
- Strong legal research, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills applicable to a broad range of practice areas.
- Proficiency in drafting clear, well-structured legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, opinions, and correspondence.
- Effective advocacy skills, with experience or interest in litigation, negotiation, and alternative dispute resolution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts to clients in accessible language.
- Ability to manage multiple files, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently while collaborating in a team-based environment.
- Strong client service orientation, sound professional judgment, and commitment to ethical practice and confidentiality.
- Membership (or eligibility for membership) in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
- 5+ years of post-call experience in relevant practice areas; experience in a full-service or multi-practice firm environment is an asset.
- Having an existing book of clients is an asset.
- Comfort with legal practice technology, document management systems, and remote collaboration tools.
- Interest in contributing to firm growth through networking, community involvement, and business development activities.
