Role Description The CATIA BIW Design Engineer will design and develop Body-in-White (BIW) structures and components using CATIA, ensuring that designs meet performance, safety, manufacturability, and cost requirements. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating 3D models and 2D drawings, performing packaging and feasibility studies, and optimizing structures for strength, weight, and assembly efficiency. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and project management, to integrate feedback and maintain compliance with relevant standards and customer specifications. The engineer will participate in design reviews, support design changes throughout the product lifecycle, and prepare documentation and reports for internal and client stakeholders. This is a contract, hybrid role based in Canada, combining on-site collaboration with flexible work-from-home arrangements.
Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in CATIA for BIW design, including 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and assembly design.
- Experience with automotive BIW structures, joining technologies (e.g., welding, bonding, riveting), and design for manufacturability.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, materials (metals, composites), structural integrity, and tolerance analysis.
- Ability to interpret and apply industry standards and customer specifications relevant to automotive and industrial design.
- Familiarity with PLM systems and CAD data management tools used in engineering environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills for design optimization and issue resolution.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams and presenting design concepts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in robotics, machine vision, or automation integration within mechanical systems is an asset.
- Ability to work in a hybrid setup in Canada, manage time effectively, and meet project deadlines under contract arrangements.
