Job Description
Support strategic stakeholder relations projects and initiatives, as well as provide support to communications and government relations functions within the department and across the organization. Maintain relationships with ESA’s external stakeholders and other safety partners to promote ESA as a part of an articulated stakeholder strategy.
Support, and planning for all aspects of ESA’s Advisory Councils including: meeting cycle management and agenda development, minutes and materials tracking/distribution, liaison with council Chairs and members, and working closely with other business units. Provide support for updating terms of reference, as required; perform periodic reviews and recommendations on process, procedures and efficiencies of councils. Support stakeholder projects and stakeholder positions, including publications and reporting tools; support and promote ESA’s corporate goals.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the development and fulfillment of departmental strategy and support of ESA’s corporate strategy, goals, and business plan.
- Support major strategic stakeholder relations projects and initiatives, as well as provide support to communications and government relations functions within the department and across the organization. Maintain key strategic relationships with ESA’s external stakeholders and other safety partners to promote ESA.
- Support, and planning for ESA’s Advisory Councils including: meeting cycle management and agenda development, minutes and materials tracking and distribution, liaison with council Chairs and members, and working closely with other business units. Provide support for updating terms of reference, as required; perform periodic reviews and recommendations on process, procedures and efficiencies of councils.
- Provide advice and assistance in a functional capacity on matters of ongoing market and stakeholder mapping and research. Identify new models and channels for stakeholder engagement.
- Support stakeholder projects and stakeholder positions, including communications, publications and reporting tools; support and promote ESA’s corporate goals, such as the Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan.
- Direct and work with external agencies, as required.
- Research, write, edit and produce communication materials for multiple projects and varied stakeholder audiences, including newsletters, annual reports, website, corporate presentations and speeches, briefing notes, and other materials as required.
- Make presentations internally to others across ESA and externally to stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education: Requires a strong knowledge of stakeholder engagement, risk management, public affairs. Requires communication knowledge with emphasis on public affairs as well as the technical focus of the organization. Requires decorum, interpersonal and excellent written, verbal and listening skills to effectively deal with stakeholders, safety partners and regulators, ESA staff, and to assist with the preparation of materials, reports and research/writing. This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor Degree in Communications Studies, Public Affairs.
Experience: Requires a strong background of multi-stakeholder communications experience with particular emphasis in the field of public affairs. Requires project management, and multi-tasking to provide effective consultation and support to ESA’s legislative and regulatory agenda. Requires experience to understand relevant issues related to electrical safety, policy development, stakeholder relations, public administration, risk and issues management. Requires demonstrated listening skills to support ESA’s strategic plan and to develop consensus among diverse stakeholders and the public on regulatory initiatives and the ability to work effectively with people inside and outside the organization to achieve the required results. A period of over 4 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
