We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to lead and continuously improve our workplace health and safety programs in Windsor, Ontario. This role is responsible for driving safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting operational teams, and maintaining the highest standards of workplace safety across multiple construction sites.
The Health & Safety Manager will work closely with branch leadership, project managers, supervisors, field employees, and external safety partners to promote a safe, compliant, and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Program Leadership
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of company health and safety programs.
- Champion a proactive safety culture across all operations and project sites.
- Ensure compliance with Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), applicable regulations, and company policies.
- Develop and communicate safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Monitor safety performance metrics and recommend corrective actions and improvement strategies.
Site Inspections & Risk Management
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Identify hazards and work collaboratively with operations teams to implement corrective measures.
- Monitor compliance with fall protection, working-at-heights requirements, equipment safety, and other construction safety standards.
- Travel to various job sites as required to support safety initiatives and compliance efforts.
Incident Management & Claims Administration
- Lead workplace incident investigations and identify root causes.
- Ensure timely reporting, documentation, and follow-up of workplace incidents and near misses.
- Oversee WSIB claims management, return-to-work programs, and modified duty initiatives.
- Track corrective actions and ensure completion within established timelines.
Training & Employee Development
- Coordinate and facilitate safety orientation, onboarding, and ongoing training programs.
- Ensure employee certifications, qualifications, and training records remain current.
- Provide coaching and guidance to supervisors and employees on safety expectations and best practices.
- Support Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) activities and initiatives.
Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, training records, and compliance reports.
- Support internal and external audits and regulatory inspections.
- Monitor legislative changes and recommend program updates as required.
- Prepare reports, statistics, and presentations for management review.
Qualifications
- 6-10 years of progressive health and safety experience within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and related construction regulations.
- Proven experience managing safety programs in a construction environment.
- Experience conducting investigations, audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Knowledge of WSIB claims management, incident reporting, and return-to-work programs.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management systems.
- JHSC Certification and Working at Heights knowledge are considered strong assets.
Requirements
- Construction industry background is required.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and reliable vehicle.
- Ability and willingness to travel between job sites as needed.
- Ability to work effectively with office staff, field teams, subcontractors, and leadership.
