Senior Commercial Property Underwriter (Contract)

About the Opportunity
Our client, a leading Property & Casualty insurer headquartered in downtown Toronto, is transforming commercial insurance through AI-enabled digital solutions. Their team of industry experts is focused on delivering innovative, efficient, and client-centric insurance services globally.
They are looking for an experienced Senior Commercial Property Underwriter to join on a contract basis, starting as soon as possible. In this role, you'll review and document underwriting decisions, and your expertise will directly shape how AI tools are built and applied to commercial property underwriting.
What You'll Do
- Analyze commercial property submissions, assess risk, and determine appropriate coverage in line with underwriting guidelines and best practices.
- Evaluate complex risks, including buildings, contents, and related exposures, to recommend underwriting strategies and pricing.
- Document underwriting decisions clearly and thoroughly to support internal stakeholders and regulatory compliance.
- Work closely with actuaries, data scientists, and technology teams to help develop and refine AI-enabled underwriting solutions.
- Ensure underwriting processes meet company policies, regulatory requirements, and quality standards, and flag opportunities for improvement.
- Share your knowledge with the team and provide guidance to junior underwriters.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of commercial property underwriting experience with a strong track record of sound risk assessment and decision-making.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field; designations such as CIP, CPCU, AU, or ARM are an asset.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to make data-driven underwriting decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience working across functions.
- Proficiency with underwriting tools and systems; exposure to AI or digital underwriting solutions is a plus.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to accurate, high-quality documentation.
- Adaptability and comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
