Role Description The Senior Power Systems Engineer will perform advanced power system analysis and modeling to support integration of renewable energy projects into the grid. This full-time, on-site role in Ottawa, ON involves conducting power flow, stability, fault, and power quality studies using industry-standard software platforms. The engineer will develop, validate, and refine models for renewable generators and power electronics-based systems, ensuring accurate representation for planning and operational studies. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing technical reports, collaborating with OEMs, utilities, and developers, and providing expert recommendations to mitigate grid reliability and stability risks. The role also includes mentoring junior engineers, contributing to methodology improvements, and supporting business development with technical input.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong expertise in Power System Studies, including load flow, transient stability, fault analysis, and power quality assessment.
- Candidates should possess a solid foundation in Power Systems and Electric Power, with understanding of grid integration for inverter-based resources.
- Candidates should possess knowledge in Electrical Engineering and Power Generation, particularly in renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, and battery storage.
- Proficiency with power system software tools (e.g., PSSE, PSCAD, ASPEN, MATLAB, ETAP or similar platforms) is highly beneficial.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, with emphasis on power systems.
- Relevant industry experience in utility, consulting, or OEM environments, preferably involving renewable energy integration.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in an on-site environment.
