English Islands is looking for a former elementary teacher who is excited to bring their direct classroom experience to a small, growing education technology company.
This is a broad, hands-on role for someone who wants to learn quickly, take ownership, and grow alongside the company. You’ll work closely with our CEO to directly support educators and admin using English Islands, help more schools discover and successfully adopt the product, and use what you learn to help shape where the product goes next.
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys variety, is comfortable figuring things out, and wants meaningful responsibility rather than a narrowly defined job.
What you’ll do
Help schools get the most out of English Islands
You’ll become a key point of contact for educators and school leaders using English Islands. You’ll help schools get set up, support teachers through onboarding and implementation, answer questions, and stay in touch with admin to ensure high satisfaction.
A big part of the role is being able to put yourself in the shoes of a busy teacher who is trying to support their students while juggling everything else on their plate. You’ll look for ways to make English Islands easier to adopt, easier to use, and more valuable to schools.
Over time, you’ll take increasing ownership of the school/district experience, including onboarding resources, communication, support, and renewal follow-up.
Help us reach more schools and districts
As you develop a strong understanding of our partner schools/districts and product, you’ll work hand-in-hand with the CEO to introduce English Islands to more schools and districts across Canada.
This will include identifying potential schools and district partners, reaching out to principals and district administrators, following up with interested leads, and helping move conversations forward.
You may also contribute to website, blog, social media, and other marketing initiatives as opportunities emerge. You won’t be expected to arrive as a salesperson or marketer. We’re looking for someone who understands educators, communicates well, is comfortable learning new skills, and is motivated to help start conversations with schools that could benefit from what we offer.
Help shape what we build next
Your experience as a teacher, combined with what you learn from working directly with our partner schools and districts, will also help inform how English Islands evolves. You’ll work closely with the CEO to identify opportunities to expand and improve our product offering, review and develop educational content, and think about how we can serve more students, teachers, grades, and school systems over time.
Who we’re looking for
You are a former elementary teacher who wants to use your classroom experience to help students across North America become confident readers. You care deeply about literacy, enjoy technology, and are excited by the opportunity to help build something.
You should have:
- Minimum 3 years of K-6 teaching experience, including some experience in K-3
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Curiosity and the ability to learn unfamiliar tools and skills quickly
- Comfort working independently and taking ownership in a small-team environment
- Strong interest in education technology and improving literacy outcomes
Experience in customer success, sales, marketing, or technology is helpful, but not required. We care more about finding someone who is thoughtful, capable, curious, and eager to learn.
Why this role is different
This is not a role where you’ll stay inside one narrow function. You’ll start by developing a deep understanding of our partner schools/districts and their needs, then use that knowledge to help us grow our relationships with schools and ultimately influence the direction of our product.
You’ll work closely with the CEO, have significant visibility into how a growing company operates, and have the opportunity to take on more responsibility as both the role and English Islands evolve.
If you’re curious about this role but don’t think you fit every box, we’d still encourage you to reach out.
