We're hiring an Intermediate RF Engineer to support the design, integration, and verification of advanced RF systems - including RF routers, fiber extenders, DIFI-based RF-over-IP, and transceiver front-end systems - for mission-critical applications. You'll work under the guidance of senior engineering staff, taking ownership of defined design tasks and bench verification, while growing into broader systems-level responsibility over time.
This is a hands-on role: you'll be at the bench with a VNA, spectrum analyzer, and signal generator regularly, not just reviewing others' data.
What You'll Do
RF System & Subsystem Design
- Design and support RF receiver chain elements from antenna port to ADC (LNAs, filters, mixers, amplifiers, switching networks), under senior engineer guidance for system-level architecture
- Contribute to RF link budget analysis across HF–Ka-band, including path loss, atmospheric effects, and interference margin
- Support noise figure budgets and cascade analyses; help verify NF, IP3, P1dB, spurious, and dynamic range requirements
- Design RF analog circuit elements (matching networks, bias circuits, AGC loops) with support from senior staff on system integration
- Apply RF propagation models (free-space, two-ray, terrain-diffraction) to support system validation
Verification & Lab Work
- Execute test and verification of assigned designs at the bench (VNA, spectrum analyzer, signal generator, oscilloscope)
- Perform NF measurements (Y-factor/cold-source), IMD/IP3 two-tone tests, and spurious emission sweeps under established test plans
- Support root-cause analysis of design failures and assist in implementing corrective actions
- Support qualification testing (MIL-STD-810 environmental, MIL-STD-461 EMI/EMC) as directed
Systems Engineering
- Contribute to requirements review and schematic generation for assigned subsystems
- Support documentation: test plans, test conformance forms, and RMA failure analysis input
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical input
- Collaborate with signal processing, firmware, and mechanical engineering teams on integration
What You Bring - Required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline
- 4–7 years of professional RF hardware design experience (adjust range as needed for your internal leveling)
- Solid RF analog design fundamentals: experience with LNA, filter, mixer, or amplifier design (does not need to span all of these at expert level)
- Working understanding of radio wave propagation (free-space loss, multipath, terrain effects)
- Some exposure to RF link budget modeling
- Hands-on experience with core RF test equipment: VNA, spectrum analyzer, signal generator (noise figure measurement experience a plus, not required)
- Familiarity with at least one RF/EDA toolset (Keysight ADS, Microwave Office, PADS, Xpedition, or similar)
- Eligible for Government of Canada Reliability Status or Security Clearance
Preferred (Not Required)
- Master's degree in EE, RF/Microwave specialization
- Exposure to RF digital design concepts: FPGA-based DSP, digital down-conversion, SDR architectures, JESD204B or similar
- Familiarity with DIFI (VITA 49.2) RF-over-IP standards
- Experience in defence-standard procurement environments (PWGSC/DND, ITAR, Controlled Goods)
- Exposure to RFSoC platforms (Xilinx/AMD Zynq UltraScale+)
- MIL-STD-461/810 testing exposure
- Background in EW, SIGINT, or spectrum monitoring receiver design
What We Offer
- Employer funded benefits program
- Competitive total compensation package
- Work-Life Balance
- Employee assistance plan
- Employee Discount Platform
- Career Progression
- Casual Work Environment
- Social Events and Sports Teams
- Onsite Counsellor
Location: Burlington, Ontario
Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Vacancy: This is a newly created position
Salary Range: $80,000 to $140,000 per year, based on experience
