Position: Product Owner, Credit Insurance

Compensation Details:
- Product Owner, Salary Grade 18: Salaries typically range from $96,557 to $128,743 annually, based on qualifications and experience, plus a 15% performance-based incentive.
Location:
- Export Development Canada operates under a hybrid work model, with employees currently required to work from the office two or three days per week
- This role can be performed from EDC's headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Montreal

Team Overview:
The team enables the digital capabilities that support EDC's credit insurance lifecycle, including customer and partner experiences, policy and buyer underwriting, claims, and portfolio management. Working across business and technology, the team modernizes enterprise platforms, improves self-service and operational efficiency, and helps protect Canadian exporters from non-payment risk as they grow internationally.

This opportunity reflects an immediate hiring need for Credit Insurance. However, our team supports a diverse portfolio of financial products and front-line business enabling technologies, and as part of our broader talent strategy we anticipate additional Product Owner hiring needs as our portfolio continues to expand. What you will be doing:
As Product Owner, you will translate business strategy and customer needs into a clear product vision, roadmap and a prioritized backlog. You will work closely with insurance value stream stakeholders and technology partners to improve customer and employee experience while ensuring reliable, compliant, and sustainable solutions.
- Develop and communicate the product vision, roadmap and squad objectives, ensuring alignment with Credit Insurance priorities and EDC strategy.
- Act as the advocate for customer and business needs, ensuring product decisions maximize value and align with strategic objectives.
- Champion customer outcomes by translating business priorities, user feedback, and operational needs into actionable product direction.
- Manage and continuously prioritize the product backlog based on customer value, business outcomes, risk reduction, regulatory obligations, dependencies, and delivery capacity.
- Partner with customers, business subject-matter experts and technology teams to validate problems, define viable solutions and incorporate user feedback.
- Track product performance, benefits and key results, using data and insight to recommend adjustments to priorities and the roadmap.
- Identify and manage dependencies, operational risks, technical debt and vendor considerations in collaboration with adjacent product teams and enabling functions.
What we are looking for:
- An undergraduate degree in business, commerce, finance, insurance, information technology or a related discipline.
- 5- 7 years experience as a Product Owner, Business Lead, Business Analyst or similar role
- Demonstrated experience in large, complex, multi-year technology transformations
- Ability to translate strategy and business needs into measurable outcomes, roadmaps, and prioritized backlogs.
- Strong stakeholder management, facilitation and influencing skills, with the confidence to resolve competing priorities and make value-based trade-offs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex business and technology matters to varied audiences.
- A customer-focused, analytical, and accountable, with the ability to work effectively through ambiguity and changing priorities.
What will make you stand out:
- Knowledge of credit insurance, commercial insurance, underwriting, policy administration, claims.
- Experience partnering with external 3rd party software vendors to deliver strategic roadmap change
- Experience modernizing customer-facing or back-office financial-services platforms, including APIs, automation or digital self-service.
- Experience defining OKRs and business cases.
- Product Owner or agile certification, such as CSPO/PSPO or equivalent training.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or comparable product-management and delivery tools.
- Bilingualism in both official languages.
