Position Summary
The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the company's accounting operations. This role includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, GST tracking, payroll administration, and financial reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with management and external accounting professionals to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable
- Manage customer invoicing and payment processing.
- Monitor outstanding balances and follow up on overdue accounts.
- Apply payments accurately and maintain customer account records.
- Monitor customer credit limits and assist with credit management.
Accounts Payable
- Process supplier invoices and maintain vendor records.
- Verify invoices against purchase orders and receiving documentation.
- Prepare vendor payments for management approval.
- Maintain accurate records of all supplier transactions.
Bookkeeping & Financial Records
- Record daily sales, purchases, expenses, deposits, and other financial transactions.
- Maintain accurate general ledger entries and accounting records.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Maintain organized financial files and documentation.
- Ensure confidentiality of all financial information.
Reconciliations & Reporting
- Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and supporting schedules for management.
- Assist with cash flow monitoring and reporting.
Payroll & Tax Support
- Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation.
- Track and maintain accurate GST records.
- Assist with GST filings and remittances.
- Liaise with the company's external accountant when required.
Inventory & Cost Tracking
- Track lumber purchases and inventory-related costs.
- Monitor supplier payments related to inventory.
- Support management with reporting related to product costs and purchasing activities.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general bookkeeping practices.
- Experience performing bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
Preferred
- Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Bookkeeping, or a related field.
- Experience within the lumber, construction, wholesale, distribution, or building materials industry.
- Knowledge of Canadian payroll and GST processes.
Not Required
- CPA designation is not required.
