Faber Inc. | Licensed Insolvency Trustees | Edmonton, Alberta
Full-time, permanent · In-office · $58,000 – $75,000 per year, plus annual performance bonus
Help Albertans get out of debt and start over.
Every file on your desk is a person having one of the harder years of their life - a family that lost an income, a small business owner whose receivables never came in, someone who has been carrying a debt load alone for a long time before finally calling someone. The work is technical, deadline-driven and governed by federal statute.
About Faber
Faber Inc. is an Alberta firm of Licensed Insolvency Trustees. Since 1997 we have grown from a single Edmonton office to offices across the province, helping individuals and businesses resolve debt through personal bankruptcy, consumer proposals, Division I proposals and corporate restructuring. Our team includes Chartered Professional Accountants, Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, Licensed Insolvency Trustees, Consumer Proposal Administrators and registered BIA Insolvency Counsellors. We are regulated by the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (“BIA”).
We are hiring a Senior Analyst for our Consumer Debt Solutions team in Edmonton.
What you'll do
You will manage your own portfolio of personal bankruptcy and consumer proposal files, from the hand-off by the Trustee following file activation with the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy (“OSB”) to the clients discharge from bankruptcy or the proposal full performance. Day to day, you will:
- Manage and administer personal bankruptcy and consumer proposal engagements in accordance with the BIA and OSB Directives
- Meet with clients one-on-one to deliver their mandatory financial counselling sessions - proper money management, budgeting techniques, the wise use of credit, credit rating rebuilding, retirement planning, etc.
- Review and verify client’s monthly income and expense statements, creditor unsecured and secured claims, from the information clients and creditors provide
- Manage asset verification, realization and preservation, including client asset exemption determinations
- Prepare accurate, informative, well-written reports and correspondence for clients, creditors, the Court and the OSB
- Respond to creditor and stakeholder inquiries, and support the Trustee at creditor meetings and Court applications
- Review and approve file reviews and file administration completed by our Analysts, and keep every file current and audit-ready
- Work with your team to sharpen our internal processes, checklists and templates - we expect our analysts to improve the way we work, not just follow it
Senior Analyst - but no insolvency experience required. Here's what that means.
Senior Analyst is a rung on Faber's career ladder, not a demand for years in the insolvency industry. Most of our analysts came from accounting, banking, finance and learned insolvency here. We train in-house: the BIA, our file processes, our systems, and the qualification to counsel debtors under the BIA.
For those who want to further their careers, we support and fund the CIRP Qualification Program (CQP) - the path to the Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional designation and, ultimately, become a Licensed Insolvency Trustee. Several of the people who will interview you started exactly where you are.
What you bring
- A post-secondary degree in accounting, business, finance or a related field
- Experience in accounting, banking, finance or other professional services environment
- Strong written and verbal English communication - you will write reports the Court and the OSB will read, and explain them to clients in plain language
- Composure and a non-judgmental manner with people under real financial stress, and absolute discretion with their information
- A high standard of personal integrity - this role handles trust funds and confidential personal financial information, and requires eligibility to be bonded and a satisfactory criminal record check
- Organization and time management strong enough to carry a full caseload against strict statutory deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, and the confidence to pick up specialized insolvency software quickly
- A valid driver's licence and a reliable vehicle - the role involves occasional travel between our Edmonton area offices
- Genuine interest in building a long-term career as an insolvency professional
What we offer
• $58,000 – $75,000 per year, plus annual bonuses for exceptional performance
- A fully paid benefits package on completion of your three-month probationary period
- A comprehensive health and wellness spending account, plus life and disability insurance fully funded by Faber
- Paid professional association fees, courses, registration fees and study support, including the CQP
- Structured in-house training - you will not be handed a caseload and left to figure it out
- A defined path: Senior Analyst → BIA Insolvency Counsellor → Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional → Licensed Insolvency Trustee
- A stable, growing Alberta firm, independently owned since 1997, where your work is visible and your suggestions get acted on
- A team that takes work-life balance seriously, and colleagues who will answer your questions
