Original job description

Southern Plains Co-op invites applications for the position of Chief Executive Officer/General Manager (CEO/GM) to lead their passionate team.

Are you seeking opportunity to lead strategy, governance, and financial performance, while shaping the future of a complex, purpose-driven organization? If you are a strategic people leader who is passionate about being a pillar of the community, Southern Plains Co-op has an opportunity for you!

Southern Plains Co-op serves the communities of Estevan, Carlyle, Oxbow, Alameda, Gainsborough and the surrounding rural areas. Locally owned and community focused, our co-operative has been proudly serving our communities for 80 years. From our beginnings in the lumber business in 1957, we have grown to provide essential products and services across Food, Fuel, Liquor, Home & Building, and Agriculture, generating approximately $108 million in annual sales.

What you’ll do:

Partner with the Board to shape and bring to life a clear, purpose-driven strategy for the organization.
Lead and align teams across multiple locations to deliver strong, sustainable business performance.
Steer financial health through sound budgeting, responsible investment, and thoughtful growth opportunities.
Build and strengthen respectful, meaningful relationships with local Indigenous communities, actively supporting partnership, engagement, and a shared path forward.
Ensure safe, efficient, and member-focused operations that reflect the organization’s values and community commitment.
Develop and support leaders, fostering an engaged, collaborative, and high-performing culture.
Build meaningful relationships with members, team members, partners, and the broader community.
Champion the Co-op brand and values through visible, trusted leadership both inside and outside the organization.
Drive continuous improvement to enhance the member and customer experience while supporting long-term success.

Who you’ll work with:

The Team: You will work closely with the Board of Directors and provide leadership to a diverse Senior Leadership Team. As the organization continues to evolve, you will help shape its leadership structure while fostering a culture of integrity, excellence, respect and community.

The Community:

Enjoy the best of small-town and rural living across Estevan, Carlyle, Oxbow, Alameda and Gainsborough. These welcoming communities offer a strong sense of connection and a lifestyle where neighbours know one another and community matters. With a mix of larger and smaller centres throughout the region, you can enjoy a relaxed pace of life while being part of vibrant communities where people live, work and build their futures together. Southern Plains Co-op proudly serves and invests in these communities, reflecting its deep local roots.

Who you are:

You are a recognized leader in Retail Operations and:

Have a strong background in Retail Management, areas of Food, Fuel, Liquor, Home & Building, or Agriculture would be considered an asset.
Have 7-10 years of leadership experience (a diploma or degree is an asset but not a requirement).
Strong skills in overseeing detailed department operating budgets, timelines, people, and processes.
A reputation for being honest and trustworthy, results-oriented, and striving to be the best in what you do.
A commitment to building relationships and collaborating to deliver solutions that matter most, and you recognize the value that different perspectives bring to meet shared objectives.

What we offer:

Competitive total rewards package, including salary, bonus eligibility, comprehensive benefits, an employer-contributed pension plan, and a company vehicle.
Relocation assistance to support a smooth transition to the community.
Encouragement to take advantage of learning opportunities to grow and develop as a Leader.
As a co-operative, we do business differently. We believe in working together to serve Western Canadians, delivering profits back to our communities and investing in sustainable growth. To learn more about who we are and what we offer, visit https://www.southernplainsco-op.crs/sites/southernplains

We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations throughout the recruitment process to ensure an enjoyable candidate experience. If you require accommodation during the recruitment process, we invite you to submit your requests to us via retailtalentacquisition@fcl.crs. All information received will be kept confidential.

If this opportunity speaks to you, we invite you to apply by November 2, 2026.

We thank all candidates for their interest, however, only those selected to continue in the recruitment process will be contacted.

As this position is considered a position of trust, you may be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check and provide a driver's abstract in accordance with policies.
