Full-Time, Contract Position – 37.5 hours per week Events Assistant (Seasonal – October to December)

The Events Assistant plays a key role in ensuring every community-led initiative runs smoothly and that organizers, donors, and volunteers feel supported and appreciated. This is a dynamic, hands-on role that brings our mission to life during one of the busiest and most inspiring times of the year.
What You’ll Do
The Events Assistant is a member and working alongside Feed Nova Scotia’s Philanthropy and Engagement team, playing a hands-on role in supporting community fundraisers and food drives that strengthen our mission and community impact. As an ambassador for Feed Nova Scotia, they build meaningful connections with community members, donors, volunteers, and event partners while sharing information about our work and inspiring community support.
They respond to inquiries from groups and individuals interested in organizing events and help structure initiatives for success. This includes providing on-site support such as event setup and teardown, supervising and guiding volunteers, collecting donations, and reconnecting with past organizers to renew relationships. With support from the Human Resources, Equity and Culture team, they help coordinate volunteers and provide orientation and role guidance, ensuring each person feels equipped and valued in their contribution.
The Events Assistant shares key event details with organizers, captures stories of community impact, gathers donor and volunteer feedback, and communicates consistent, inspiring messages about our mission. They may also conduct thank-you visits to community and retail partners to express appreciation for their support.
This role provides administrative and logistical support, including maintaining accurate event records, tracking and replenishing supplies, and assisting with event reporting and donation preparation.
Availability
Schedule flexibility is essential to this role. Candidates must be available to support scheduled community events, including evenings and weekends. Work schedules can be planned in advance for the duration of the contract.
Training will take place Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Following training, regular hours will transition to Thursday through Monday, typically between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., with shifts averaging 7.5 hours per day.

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, both in person and through phone and email.
- Ability to provide clear direction, coordinate tasks, and support volunteers in a positive and inclusive manner.
- Confidence representing Feed Nova Scotia, engaging with community members, donors, and event partners, and capturing photos and stories that highlight community impact.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and unexpected situations during events.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and exercise sound judgment.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and respect for privacy and confidentiality.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of their work.
- Experience coordinating volunteers, supporting community events, or working in a customer-facing environment would be an asset.
Important Information to know about the Events Assistant position:
Transportation Requirements
This position requires transporting event supplies to and from offsite events and working from remote locations. Access to a reliable personal vehicle is necessary. The successful candidate must also be eligible to drive the Feed Nova Scotia events van and be added to the organization’s vehicle insurance policy. This requires a valid driver’s license and a recent driver’s abstract demonstrating a clean driving record for at least three years. Feed Nova Scotia will cover the cost of the driver’s abstract.
When a personal vehicle is used for work purposes, mileage needs to be tracked by the Events Assistant and will be reimbursed at a rate of $0.58/km.
Compensation
The rate of pay for this position is $21.96/hr, plus 4% (in lieu of earned vacation), paid out on a biweekly basis.
