OPPORTUNITY
As a Private Equity Analyst Intern, you will have a role working with the investment and origination teams within the Private Equity Group. The principal focus of this position will be researching and analyzing a variety of industries and investment opportunities, assisting with the execution of transactions, and supporting the investment team in building strategy initiatives for existing portfolio companies. The role will also expose you to origination activities, financial reporting, tax and compliance related activities within the investments and funds.
The position will require the candidate to work with members across the Private Equity team, comprised of 20+ investment, origination, and administration professionals.
Fengate is looking for a candidate who has a strong finance foundation coupled with interest and experience in research and investing. Fengate is looking for self-starters, with strong analytical and critical thinking skills, and excellent interpersonal, communications and collaboration skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the team with building financial models and conducting financial analysis for potential investments.
- Perform industry (e.g., competitive positioning, SWOT, supply chain, customer segmentation, etc.) and company research and diligence (e.g., operational, financial, commercial) to evaluate potential industries and investments.
- Assist in preparing investment memorandum materials in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
- Participate in the ongoing management and performance monitoring of existing portfolio companies, including assisting in the internal valuation process (e.g. precedent and comparable trading analysis).
- Assist the deal team and portfolio companies’ management teams to implement initiatives and strategic decisions.
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements, fund reports and investor notices for the respective funds.
- Manage and maintain the deal pipeline within the Private Equity team’s CRM system, while contributing to ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency and usefulness of the tool.
- Ad-hoc analysis as well as special projects as required.
Key Qualifications
- Applicant must be an undergraduate student having completed at least 2 years of study in a business/economics program, with excellent academic performance.
- Applicant must be on track to graduate in 2028/2029.
- Previous co-op term of meaningful work experience is preferred, ideally in one or more of private equity, principal investing, investment banking, corporate development, capital markets, and/or management consulting.
