Your Team:
Join Flair’s Maintenance team, where technical leadership supports a safe, reliable, and compliant fleet. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Vice President, Maintenance leads Maintenance, Engineering, Technical Supply Chain, and Records, Planning & Automation, ensuring the resources, systems, programs, and external support are in place to meet operational needs, support fleet growth, and manage sustainable unit costs.
The Vice President oversees OEMs, MROs, lessors, and other technical partners, including vendor selection, contract negotiation, and performance management. The position also oversees aircraft introductions, deliveries, transitions, and returns in alignment with the fleet plan, along with the continued advancement of automation and technology across the department.
The Vice President, Maintenance serves as the Person Responsible for Maintenance (PRM) and fulfils the applicable responsibilities under the Company’s Air Operator Certificate and Approved Maintenance Organization certificate, in accordance with CAR 706.03 and CAR 573.04.
This is an on-site position based at our Calgary, AB (YYC) office.
A Day in the Life:
Maintenance & Operational Performance:
- Provide executive leadership and direction across Maintenance, Engineering, Technical Supply Chain, and Records, Planning & Automation, ensuring alignment with operational requirements, fleet plans, and regulatory obligations.
- Ensure appropriate staffing, facilities, tooling, equipment, systems, and technical capabilities are in place to support current operations and future fleet growth.
- Establish and maintain effective maintenance programs and practices that support aircraft safety, reliability, availability, and cost performance.
- Ensure the continuing airworthiness of Company aircraft and that maintenance is controlled and performed in accordance with the approved Maintenance Control Manual/MPM, applicable maintenance schedules, approved data, regulatory requirements, and Company standards.
- Partner with operational and commercial teams to coordinate maintenance requirements, aircraft downtime, heavy checks, modifications, and paint activities while minimizing operational and revenue impacts.
- Monitor aircraft availability, technical dispatch reliability, maintenance performance, and on-time performance, ensuring appropriate action is taken where improvement is required.
- Provide executive oversight of Maintenance Control and day-of-operations technical support, including AOG events, deferred defects, repetitive defects, MEL/CDL management, and technical recovery, ensuring safe and timely resolution of maintenance-related operational disruptions.
- Establish and maintain executive-level maintenance KPIs covering safety, reliability, aircraft availability, deferred defects, operational disruption, supplier performance, and unit cost.
Engineering, Planning, Records & Automation:
- Provide oversight of engineering, reliability, maintenance planning, and technical records to ensure maintenance requirements are effectively planned, documented, and executed.
- Ensure aircraft technical records and maintenance documentation are maintained in accordance with applicable regulatory and company requirements.
- Advance automation and technology across the Maintenance organization to improve planning, information management, operational efficiency, and controls.
- Lead continued development of paperless maintenance processes and technologies, including the implementation and effective use of an electronic technical logbook.
- Establish effective procedures, standards, and controls that support consistent execution and reduce operational and maintenance errors.
Fleet, Supply Chain & External Partners:
- Lead maintenance activities associated with aircraft introductions, deliveries, transitions, and returns in alignment with the fleet plan.
- Provide oversight of Technical Supply Chain to ensure appropriate availability of parts, materials, tooling, and spares to support fleet requirements.
- Drive lifecycle maintenance economics, including material and inventory strategy, warranty and vendor recovery, repair-versus-replace decisions, maintenance reserves, major component and engine planning, and aircraft lease return exposure.
- Manage strategic relationships with OEMs, lessors, MROs, and other technical suppliers and service providers.
- Lead vendor selection and contract negotiations for outsourced maintenance and technical services, balancing quality, operational requirements, performance, and cost.
- Establish appropriate vendor performance oversight and accountability against contractual, regulatory, safety, and operational requirements.
Regulatory, Safety & Compliance:
- Fulfill the responsibilities of the Transport Canada-approved person responsible for the Maintenance Control System under CAR 706.03 and the Person Responsible for Maintenance under CAR 573.04.
- Maintain direct access to the Accountable Executive on matters affecting regulatory compliance, airworthiness, safety, or the resources necessary to discharge the PRM responsibilities.
- Maintain an effective and professional relationship with Transport Canada and ensure maintenance activities remain compliant with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Provide leadership for Maintenance responsibilities under the Safety Management System (SMS) and promote effective risk management, reporting, and Just Culture principles..
Financial & People Leadership:
- Develop and manage the Maintenance operating and capital budgets, including requirements for facilities, tooling, equipment, technology, parts, and spares.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve maintenance cost performance and reduce unit costs without compromising safety, compliance, reliability, or operational requirements.
- Lead and develop Maintenance leaders and teams through clear accountability, performance management, coaching, training, and succession planning.
- Establish and monitor departmental performance measures and provide executive leadership with clear visibility into maintenance performance, costs, risks, and priorities.
- Maintain awareness of industry developments, emerging technologies, suppliers, and maintenance practices that may improve operational or financial performance.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

- Education:
- A valid Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) licence is required.
- Post-secondary education in Aircraft Maintenance, Aviation, Engineering, or a related field is considered an asset.
- CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) or equivalent is an asset; PMP is not required at this level.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in aircraft maintenance, engineering, technical operations, or related aviation functions, preferably within a commercial airline environment.
- Significant experience in transport-category commercial aircraft maintenance, preferably supporting Boeing 737 or comparable narrowbody fleet operations.
- Minimum of 7 years of senior leadership experience with responsibility for large, complex maintenance or technical operations teams.
- Demonstrated experience leading multiple technical functions, including aircraft maintenance, engineering, maintenance planning, technical records, and technical supply chain.
- Extensive experience with maintenance control systems, maintenance programs, reliability, aircraft availability, and technical dispatch performance.
- Experience leading aircraft introductions, deliveries, transitions, lease returns, and retirements.
- Extensive experience managing outsourced maintenance, MRO providers, OEMs, lessors, technical suppliers, and complex vendor contracts.
- Strong experience with Transport Canada regulatory requirements, including maintenance control and Approved Maintenance Organization requirements.
- Experience overseeing maintenance planning and technical records, including regulatory compliance, maintenance forecasting, records integrity, and operational requirements.
- Experience implementing or advancing maintenance systems, automation, digital processes, and technology, including paperless maintenance initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience managing significant operating and capital budgets, maintenance cost performance, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Experience scaling maintenance capabilities to support fleet growth, including workforce, facilities, tooling, equipment, systems, parts, and spares requirements.
- Experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS), regulatory audits, risk management, compliance programs, and Just Culture principles.
- Demonstrated experience developing senior leaders, building organizational capability, and implementing succession planning within a maintenance or technical organization.
- Core Competencies:
- Strong executive leadership skills with the ability to lead and develop large, complex maintenance and technical teams.
- Strong knowledge of aircraft maintenance, engineering, technical operations, maintenance programs, reliability, and technical supply chain functions.
- Strong knowledge of Transport Canada aviation regulations, maintenance control requirements, AMO requirements, and applicable aviation safety standards.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets, control maintenance costs, evaluate capital requirements, and balance cost with operational and reliability requirements.
- Strong vendor management and negotiation skills, including the ability to manage relationships with MRO providers, OEMs, lessors, and other technical suppliers.
- Strong strategic planning and decision-making skills with the ability to support fleet growth, aircraft transitions, and changing operational requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess maintenance performance, reliability trends, operational risks, and cost drivers.
- Ability to establish clear performance measures and use operational and financial data to identify areas requiring improvement.
- Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to work effectively with executive leadership, Transport Canada, operational teams, OEMs, lessors, and external partners.
- Strong organizational and change leadership skills with the ability to lead process, technology, and operational improvements across the Maintenance function.
- Sound judgment and the ability to make timely decisions while maintaining safety, regulatory compliance, operational reliability, and cost discipline.
- Requirements:
