This role is based in Toronto, Canada with time in office in Richmond Hill and regional travel.
Fleet's technology helps explorers find the critical minerals the world needs, and none of that happens without field teams who can do the work safely. As our operations across North America grow, we're looking for someone to make sure every deployment, facility and field program is run the right way, with everyone going home safe.
As HSE Lead, Americas, you'll lead the practical implementation and continuous improvement of Fleet's Health, Safety and Environment approach across our North American operations. You'll work closely with operational leaders, field teams, contractors and our global HSE function to make sure field deployments, facilities and operational activities run safely, consistently and in line with applicable federal, state and local requirements.
This is a hands-on operational role. You'll spend much of your time with the teams closest to the work: identifying and controlling risk, strengthening field safety practices, supporting incident management and building HSE capability across the region. You'll bring Fleet's global HSE Management System to life in the Americas, making sure regional practices stay connected to our broader standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational & Field Safety
- Partner with Americas operational leaders and field teams to identify, assess and manage HSE risks across field deployments, warehousing, facilities and other operational activities.
- Provide practical HSE advice during planning, mobilisation and execution of field programs.
- Conduct field and workplace inspections, risk assessments and safety observations.
- Ensure appropriate controls, Safe Work Procedures/JHAs and safety documentation are in place for higher-risk activities.
- Support operational leaders to build HSE accountability into day-to-day decision-making.
2. US Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain oversight of relevant federal, state and local occupational safety and environmental requirements applicable to Fleet's US operations.
- Ensure Fleet's operations meet applicable OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
- Monitor regulatory developments and translate changes into practical actions for operational teams.
- Maintain appropriate HSE records and support regulatory reporting where required.
- Work with Legal and global HSE where complex regulatory or compliance matters arise.
3. Global HSE System Implementation
- Implement Fleet's global HSE Management System across the Americas, ensuring regional requirements are appropriately incorporated.
- Support alignment with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 principles and Fleet's global standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve HSE systems based on operational experience within the region.
- Participate in internal and external HSE audits and ensure agreed corrective actions are implemented.
4. Incident Management & Investigation
- Lead or support investigations into incidents, near misses and significant safety events across the Americas.
- Apply recognised investigation methodologies and ensure root causes and contributing factors are appropriately identified.
- Partner with operational leaders to develop and close corrective and preventative actions.
- Escalate significant incidents appropriately and support regulatory/client reporting where required.
- Analyse incident and near-miss trends to identify systemic risks and improvement opportunities.
5. Contractor & Client HSE
- Assess and monitor HSE capability and compliance of contractors supporting Fleet's North American operations.
- Support contractor onboarding, pre-mobilisation and ongoing safety management.
- Partner with Commercial and Operations teams to respond to client HSE requirements, tenders, audits and prequalification processes.
- Participate in client HSE discussions and pre-mobilisation meetings where required.
- Ensure HSE responsibilities between Fleet, clients and contractors are clearly understood before work commences.
6. HSE Capability & Culture
- Coach operational leaders and field teams in practical risk management and safe work practices.
- Deliver or coordinate inductions, toolbox talks and relevant HSE training.
- Maintain oversight of required licences, competencies and safety training within the region.
- Build confidence in identifying, raising and resolving safety issues.
- Promote a culture where people take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of those around them.
7. Emergency Preparedness
- Ensure appropriate emergency response arrangements exist across US operational locations and field activities.
- Support development and testing of emergency response plans.
- Coordinate with operational leaders on emergency preparedness for remote or higher-risk deployments.
Experience & Qualifications
Must Have
- 5+ years' HSE experience in an operational environment such as mining, mineral exploration, geophysics or similar.
- Strong working knowledge of US occupational health and safety requirements, including OSHA.
- Demonstrated experience supporting field-based or geographically dispersed operations.
- Strong capability in operational risk assessment, incident investigation and corrective action management.
- Experience managing contractor HSE requirements.
- Strong HSE documentation and technical writing capability.
- Ability to influence operational leaders and frontline teams without relying on positional authority.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to operational and field locations.
Highly Regarded
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Risk or a related discipline.
- Professional HSE certification such as CSP, ASP or equivalent.
- Experience with ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001.
- Recognised incident investigation qualification or methodology experience.
- Mining, mineral exploration, seismic acquisition or remote field operations experience.
- Experience working across both US and Canadian regulatory environments.
