Role Description The Project Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in Prince George, BC, responsible for supporting the financial management of construction projects from initiation through completion. Day-to-day tasks include preparing and reviewing project budgets, monitoring costs, tracking commitments, and ensuring accurate and timely recording of project-related transactions. The role involves processing progress billings, supporting contract and change order administration, reconciling project accounts, and generating financial reports for project managers and senior leadership. The Project Accountant works closely with operations, procurement, and management teams to maintain compliance with company policies and client requirements, support forecasting and cash flow planning, and help identify variances and opportunities for cost control. This role also contributes to continuous improvement of accounting processes and supports external audits and client reporting as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong project accounting and general accounting skills, including budgeting, cost tracking, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems, as well as MS Excel and other office productivity tools.
- Knowledge of construction or heavy civil project environments, including contracts, change orders, progress billings, and job cost structures.
- Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to interpret financial data to support project and management decisions.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with project managers, site teams, clients, and vendors.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business; a professional accounting designation (or progress toward one) is an asset.
