ABOUT THE ROLE
The Vocational Education Student Work Placement provides students with hands-on experience in a real workplace environment while developing practical job skills, professional habits, and confidence. The student works under the guidance of a supervisor or designated staff member and participates in tasks appropriate to their abilities, interests, and educational goals.
KEY RESPONSIBITIES
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Attend the workplace regularly and arrive on time according to the assigned schedule.
- Follow workplace policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements.
- Complete assigned tasks under the direction and supervision of staff.
- Develop and practice workplace skills related to the student's vocational education program.
- Demonstrate appropriate workplace behavior, including respect, communication, teamwork, and responsibility.
- Assist staff with routine duties and activities as appropriate.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Use workplace equipment and supplies safely and only as instructed.
- Communicate questions, concerns, or difficulties to the supervisor.
- Accept feedback and use it to improve workplace performance.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of clients, students, staff, and the organization.
- Participate in evaluations or progress discussions with the supervisor and school/program representative.
- Complete any required school or placement documentation.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a current E-Learning student registered in vocational education
- Current First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, HSC3000 certification is an asset.
- Experience working with youth is an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Reliable, responsible, and punctual.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and organizational policies.
- Successful completion of any required background or vulnerable-sector screening.
