Local Truck Driver to join our Prefab Operations team in Crossfield, Alberta.
This position is responsible for local deliveries of prefabricated wall panels, lumber packages, equipment, and construction materials between our prefab facility, company yards, suppliers, and active construction sites throughout Calgary and the surrounding area.
This is a
local driving position, not a long-haul role. The driver is responsible for the safe operation and care of the assigned truck and trailer, proper load securement, required inspections and documentation, and the safe and efficient completion of each delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a company truck and gooseneck trailer for local deliveries.
- Transport prefabricated wall panels, lumber packages, equipment, and other construction materials.
- Complete required daily pre-trip inspections of the truck and trailer.
- Confirm loads are properly positioned, balanced, and secured before transport.
- Follow proper load securement procedures throughout each delivery.
- Monitor the condition of the truck, trailer, and related equipment and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Complete delivery documentation and obtain required signatures.
- Coordinate with the Prefab Operations team to maintain delivery schedules.
- Communicate delays, site access issues, damaged materials, equipment concerns, and other delivery-related issues promptly.
- Communicate professionally with shop personnel, field teams, customers, suppliers, and other drivers.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional truck and trailer.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and basic delivery-related tasks as required.
- Follow company safety procedures, site requirements, and applicable Alberta transportation regulations.
Equipment
The Primary Equipment Used In This Role Includes
- Ram 5500 truck
- 36-foot deck-over trailer
- Gooseneck trailer configuration
Required Qualifications
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence or higher, appropriate for the assigned vehicle and trailer configuration.
- Driver's abstract that meets company and insurer requirements.
- Experience safely operating larger trucks and towing trailers.
- Demonstrated ability to safely tow, back up, park, and maneuver a large gooseneck or deck-over trailer.
- Knowledge of proper load securement practices.
- Knowledge of vehicle and trailer pre-trip inspections.
- Ability to work independently and manage a local delivery schedule.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to report delays, equipment concerns, damaged materials, and site issues promptly.
- Comfortable working around active construction sites and changing site conditions.
- Reliable, organized, safety-conscious, and responsible with company equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience hauling construction materials, lumber, prefabricated components, equipment, or similar loads.
- Previous construction, lumber, or building-material delivery experience.
- Alberta Class 1 or Class 3 driver's licence.
Safety and Accountability
Safety is a core responsibility of this position.
The successful candidate will be expected to complete required vehicle and trailer inspections, properly secure every load, identify and report equipment deficiencies, comply with transportation and site requirements, and stop work or escalate concerns when conditions are unsafe.
The driver is also expected to take ownership of the equipment entrusted to them and communicate concerns early so they can be addressed before they become larger safety or operational issues.
