Who We Are
Fresh Prep is Canada's largest Canadian-owned meal kit company and a certified B Corporation. We deliver chef-created meal kits, prepared meals and a growing grocery marketplace to customers across the country, from production facilities in British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec, with operations in Ontario. We're a team of over 600 people and over $110M in annual revenue.
Our founders were named EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2025 winners and we've been recognized as one of Deloitte's Best Managed Companies in Canada, one of BC's Top Employers, and one of Globe and Mail's Top Growing Companies.
The Role
You'll own the financial function of a national, multi-province, physical-operations business with subscription economics, which means you need to be fluent in both cohort and contribution margin analysis and in the operating systems required to manage food costs, labour productivity, last mile delivery and freight.
You'll be accountable for the numbers the Board and our Investors see, capital strategy and the financial rigour that lets the executive team make decisions quickly and correctly.
You'll report to the CEO, sit on the executive team, and be a standing presence in the boardroom. You will also, at points, be the person telling the rest of us that something we want to do doesn't work. We're looking for someone who is comfortable doing that.
What You'll Be Doing
Financial leadership and reporting
- Own all financial reporting, including GAAP compliant statements, the annual audit and consolidated reporting across multiple provinces and legal entities.
- Own internal management reporting and commentary that gives the executive team and Board timely insight into trends, unit economics, and the drivers behind them: not just what happened, but why.
- Own the operating and capital budget process and hold the company to it.
- Own the financial metrics framework across the business, including cohort retention, margin, customer payback and facility-level unit economics.
Capital, cash, and financing
- Own cash management, working capital, and cash forecasting in a business with meaningful inventory and seasonality.
- Manage our lending relationships, credit facilities, and covenant compliance.
- Lead financing strategy and execution: debt, asset-based and project finance, equity, and government programs, in partnership with the CEO and founders.
- Manage reporting and communication to a capital structure that includes multiple classes of equity and institutional investors, including the obligations that come with it.
- Own the government funding agenda, including SR&ED and applicable federal and provincial grant programs.
Transactions and strategic projects
- Lead financial diligence, modelling, and integration on acquisitions and other strategic transactions.
- Provide modelling and analytical support for growth decisions: new facilities, capacity investment, category expansion, long-term supply contracts, and technology investment.
- Bring financial discipline to pricing and promotional strategy in partnership with the CMO, including the margin envelope within which marketing operates.
Operations partnership
- Own cost accounting for a manufacturing and logistics business: standard costs, food cost variance, labour productivity, delivery, freight, and waste.
- Partner with Operations on the decisions that determine our gross margin and be a genuine second set of eyes on capital projects.
- Support technology and automation decisions with credible business cases and honest post-mortems.
Compliance and governance
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance across all financial functions, including multi-province tax (GST/HST, QST, PST), payroll compliance in four provinces including Quebec, and corporate filings.
- Maintain the internal controls appropriate to our scale and to the diligence standards our investors and lenders apply.
- Support the Board and its committees with materials, forecasts, and the analysis behind major decisions.
Team
- Lead, structure, and develop the finance, accounting and supply chain teams
- Continue building systems and processes that create more thinking and less data manipulation. This is a company where the finance team should be spending its time on analysis, not on reconciliation.
What We're Looking For
Required
- 12+ years in finance and/or accounting, including senior finance leadership in a company at or above $75M in revenue.
- CPA designation, with a degree in accounting, finance, or business.
- Experience in physical-operations businesses: manufacturing, food production, CPG, or logistics, including hands-on cost accounting ownership.
- Demonstrated ownership of an external audit and GAAP reporting.
- Experience securing debt financing and managing lender relationships and covenants.
- Experience with a modern ERP environment and ancillary tech-stack.
- Multi-site operating experience in a manufacturing environment.
Strongly preferred
- M&A experience with due diligence, deal structuring and integration
- Experience with subscription or recurring-revenue economics alongside physical operations.
- Experience with institutional equity investors
- Experience preparing a company for a liquidity or capital event.
- SR&ED and government grant program experience.
How you work
- You reason from data and are honest about what the data doesn't tell you.
- You can explain complex financial concepts to a room of operators without either condescending or losing them.
- You build environments where other people do their best work, and you develop people rather than accumulating tasks.
- You are fluent with AI tooling and actively use it in your own work. Not as a talking point, but because you've found it makes your analysis faster and your team's time better spent. You have a view on where it belongs in a finance function and where it doesn't.
- You are willing to be the dissenting voice, and you know how to disagree without being obstructive.
- You can toggle between daily finance tasks and strategic board conversations comfortably and can operate with precision in both.
- You don’t have an ego, you don’t need to be right and you are happy as long as the decision helps achieve the company’s goals.
What You Can Expect
- Competitive executive compensation, performance bonus, and participation in our Employee Stock Option Plan.
- Hybrid work, with our HQ in East Vancouver.
- Comprehensive executive health benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
- A Fresh Prep meal plan
- A highly impactful seat at the table of a Canadian company that is at the forefront of food innovation
