Field Service Engineer – Western Canada

Role Overview
The Field Service Engineer is a senior technical specialist responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting FroggaBio’s complex solutions in healthcare diagnostic laboratories. This role requires substantial medical-device or life-sciences service experience and a strong understanding of clinical laboratory workflows. The engineer will handle advanced technical escalations, critical installations, and service calls across Western Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation & Commissioning: Complete site-readiness assessments, installation, integration, calibration, verification, and acceptance testing for automated laboratory systems.
- Maintenance & Repair: Diagnose and repair electro-mechanical, robotic, software, and safety systems, including the AS-410, tissue processors, staining and coverslipping systems, and other diagnostic platforms.
- Automation Systems Support: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on complex automated systems, including sample loading, barcode reading, robotic handling, cutting and transfer functions, sensors, drives, controls, and pneumatic components.
- Workflow Optimization: Adjust system parameters to support quality, reliability, throughput, and alignment with laboratory protocols.
- Customer Relations: Act as a trusted technical advisor to laboratory managers, technologists, and other users; provide technical training and communicate service status clearly.
- Emergency Territory Support: Respond to mission-critical downtime events in hospital and private laboratories across the territory.
- Documentation & Inventory: Maintain detailed service reports, record parts used or replaced, and manage local spare-parts and tool inventory.
Qualifications
- Education: Formal education in automation, mechatronics, electro-mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
- Experience: 7+ years of field service experience in medical devices, life sciences, or healthcare diagnostic laboratories. Experience in any healthcare laboratory environment is relevant; pathology experience is an asset.
- Technical Skills: Strong electrical and mechanical diagnostic skills, including robotics, sensors, motors, controls, pneumatics, calibration, basic networking, diagnostic software, and interpretation of schematics and technical manuals.
- Preferred Experience: Hands-on experience with complex laboratory or production automation, including robotics, precision handling, barcode systems, sensors, motors, controls, pneumatics, software integration, and workflow troubleshooting.
- Travel: Ability to independently manage a large territory across Western Canada and travel regularly, sometimes on short notice.
