Job Purpose:
The Consultant Paediatrician will provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of infants, children and adolescents across hospital and outpatient/community settings. The service operates across clinics and hospital settings in Victoria, Surrey, Mission and White Rock.
The successful physician may work across more than one location depending on clinical need, service requirements, specialist interests, patient demand and the mutually agreed job plan.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Undertake comprehensive paediatric assessments, including medical history, developmental history, physical examination and appropriate clinical risk assessment.
- Assess and manage infants, children and adolescents presenting with acute, chronic and complex medical conditions.
- Develop differential diagnoses and individualised, evidence-informed treatment plans.
- Order, interpret and appropriately follow up laboratory investigations, imaging, ECGs and other diagnostic tests.
- Provide pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment within the physician's scope of practice.
- Monitor treatment response, growth, development, medication effects and relevant clinical outcomes.
- Recognise and manage clinical deterioration and arrange urgent escalation, hospital admission or specialist referral when required.
- Provide outpatient pediatric consultations, follow-up and longitudinal management.
- Provide hospital-based paediatric assessment and management as appropriate to the physician's approved scope and hospital privileges.
- Communicate effectively with children, adolescents, parents, guardians, primary-care providers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Coordinate transitions of care between hospital, outpatient clinics, primary care and community services.
- Provide appropriate health education, anticipatory guidance, preventive care and shared decision-making.
- Maintain accurate, complete and timely medical records and clinical correspondence.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, handovers and care planning.
Essential Qualifications:
- Primary medical qualification from a recognised medical school.
- Completion of recognised postgraduate specialist training in Paediatrics in the United Kingdom or Ireland.
- UK candidates: MRCPCH and CCT in Paediatrics, or an appropriate paediatric specialty CCT relevant to the proposed scope of practice.
- Ireland-trained candidates: appropriate MRCPI Paediatrics and CSCST in Paediatrics or relevant paediatric specialty, as applicable.
