Position Summary
The Research Facilitator (RF) will support GB’s academic faculties to advance the institution’s ambitious research goals by fostering a thriving research culture and providing a broad range of support to accelerate the development of research programs and activities across the polytechnic. The RF will support new, emerging, and existing research areas by taking innovative and creative approaches to developing strategically significant research partnerships, proposals, funding applications and award nominations, and by promoting collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting academic faculties and senior management to advance institutional research goals and foster a strong research culture; coordinating succession planning and working closely with internal and external stakeholders to support sustained research activity and funding.
- Planning and overseeing programs and activities that enhance research interests, research capacity, and research funding activity; creating and implementing tailored strategies and processes; and providing mentorship and advisory support to researchers.
- Supporting researchers and ORI team members to identify, develop, and execute research collaborations; building and strengthening strategic relationships; providing recommendations to strengthen institutional competitiveness in research funding; and developing nominations for research awards.
- Developing and delivering workshops, seminars, and programs that enhance researcher skills, grant readiness, research engagement, and knowledge translation; promoting research participation and knowledge sharing through events and engagement activities.
- Contributing to and delivering initiatives that enhance institutional visibility and reputation through coordinated dissemination and engagement efforts; advising researchers on strategies to increase research visibility, impact, and professional profile through appropriate knowledge mobilization activities; providing guidance on publication planning, conference participation, and dissemination approaches aligned with research goals and funding expectations.
- Maintaining comprehensive knowledge of research funding sources and programs; identifying and promoting research funding opportunities; liaising with funding agencies; and interpreting policies for researchers and research administrators.
- Managing risk by ensuring research grant processes align with funding guidelines; assisting with large-scale institutional funding applications; facilitating development of research concepts and programs; and providing leadership to ensure accuracy and competitiveness in funding proposal development.
- Providing expert advice and guidance on funding opportunities, requirements, policies, and procedures; reviewing research proposals, grants, and contracts for compliance and alignment with institutional priorities; and supporting non-financial post-award research activities; providing advice to strengthen proposal quality, with particular attention to program specific mandates, research design, and research methodology.
- Other duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Doctoral degree or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in a discipline relevant to thematic areas of focus for George Brown’s Research Institutes.
- Minimum eight (8) years of progressive experience in research methodology design and development, research practice, grant writing and facilitation, research funding strategy, multidisciplinary research coordination, research knowledge mobilization and/or publishing, and partnership and stakeholder engagement within the postsecondary environment.
- Extensive experience in navigating complex funding agency requirements.
- Demonstrated experience providing strategic consultation, mentorship, and advisory support to researchers throughout the research development and grant application process.
- Excellent project and portfolio management experience, including planning, prioritizing, coordinating, and monitoring multiple concurrent initiatives with competing timelines, stakeholders, and organizational priorities.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing researcher development programs, workshops, tools, templates, guidance documents, and service improvement initiatives.
- Extensive experience building collaborative relationships and working effectively with researchers, institutional leaders, interdisciplinary teams, external partners, funding agencies, and other stakeholders without formal supervisory authority.

- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex research concepts, provide constructive feedback diplomatically, adapt communication styles to diverse audiences, and foster trust through genuine, respectful, and collaborative interactions.
- Demonstrated interest in and commitment to supporting researcher success and advancing institutional research excellence, with authentic engagement in research mentorship, relationship building, continuous learning, and creating an encouraging and inclusive research environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to uphold the polytechnic’s priorities on equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigenization (EDII).
- Able to travel to client sites, showcases, and conferences, or between campuses for consultations related to project and proposal development.
