About Giatec
Giatec Scientific Inc. is a global leader in smart concrete testing technologies, bringing real-time data, AI, and IoT solutions to jobsites worldwide. Our core products – SmartRock®, SmartMix®, and MixPilot® – support the full concrete lifecycle, from mix design and production to placement and performance monitoring, helping teams improve quality, efficiency, and sustainability while reducing concrete’s carbon footprint.
SmartMix (AI-driven concrete mix optimization) and MixPilot (in-transit slump sensing technology) are transforming how ready-mix concrete producers optimize operations, reduce waste, and improve quality. We’re headquartered in Ottawa with a growing North American sales organization.
At Giatec, we value innovation, creativity, agility, and integrity. We’re committed to creating a culture of openness and teamwork in which our employees can thrive and leverage their skills, all while making the world a smarter place to live in.
Who we’re looking for
You like getting to know people. You’d rather sit in a concrete plant office with a QC manager or talk with a concrete producer at a trade show booth, than send 200 templated emails. When someone tells you “not now”, it doesn’t knock you off course; you take it as information. And you’re curious enough about how things work to learn an industry deeply and speak its language.
If that sounds like you, we’d like to meet you.
The role
As our Business Development Manager for RMC (Ready Mixed Concrete) Solutions, you’ll open and grow relationships with ready-mix concrete producers across North America. You’ll be the person producers know and trust at Giatec.
You’ll Build Those Relationships In Several Ways
- At events: you’ll work trade shows and industry gatherings, and follow up so that conversations turn into meetings.
- On the phone and over video: you’ll reach out to plant managers, QC leaders, operations teams and owners.
- On site: you’ll visit plants to understand how producers work every day.
This isn’t a volume-dialing BDR job. You’ll book your own meetings, run discovery conversations, qualify opportunities, and often execute demos. You’ll hand a deal to our Account Executives only once it’s ready.
Compensation: This role comes with a salary range of $50,000–$70,000 plus variable compensation.
What you’ll do
- Build and grow a network of relationships with ready-mix producers, both new and existing accounts
- Represent Giatec at trade shows and industry events, and follow up after every conversation
- Run discovery conversations about concrete operations, quality control, in-transit monitoring, and fleet workflows
- Judge whether Giatec, or one of our partners, is the right fit, and be honest when it isn’t
- Book and lead your own discovery meetings, qualification calls and demos
- Use Claude and other AI tools to keep your focus on the high impact activities
- Keep Salesforce accurate and useful at both the account and opportunity level
- Work with Customer & Engineering Success, Product, and Marketing to validate technical fit and share what you’re hearing in the market
- Contribute market insights through feedback, social posts and newsletters
What you bring
- Experience in business development or account management where you were responsible for building new relationships and growing existing ones. This can be in any industry.
- A track record of opening doors through events, calls and meetings
- Resilience. You stay positive and keep going when prospects are busy, skeptical or slow to say yes.
- A consultative style. You ask good questions and listen more than you pitch.
- Comfort with technical products, and the drive to become an expert in ready-mix operations within your first year
- A self-starting approach. You set your own plan and don’t wait to be told what’s next.
- Comfort on job sites and at plants, as well as in boardrooms
- Discipline with a CRM (Salesforce is a plus)
- Ability to travel 15–30%, and to work from our Ottawa office on a hybrid schedule
Nice to have: experience in concrete, construction or construction tech; familiarity with sales frameworks like MEDDIC, SPIN or value-based selling; a habit of sharing insights through content or social media.
This role might not be for you if…
- You prefer a scripted, high-volume calling job
- You need a lot of structure and direction to do your best work
- You’d rather stay behind a desk than visit customers in person
What success looks like in your first year
- You have a strong, trusted network across the RMC industry
- Account Executives regularly receive well-qualified opportunities from you
- Producers and colleagues treat you as a credible voice on ready-mix operations and technology
- Your discovery notes in Salesforce are the ones other people learn from
Why Giatec
- Real impact: you’ll help a huge, traditional industry become smarter and more sustainable.
- Innovative product: you’ll sell category-leading AI and IoT technology that solves real problems for producers.
- Career path: many of our Account Executives started in business development, and this role is built to grow into one.
- Team and culture: you’ll get direct mentorship from an experienced sales leader, full onboarding and product training, and a team that values openness, collaboration and integrity.
