Role Description The IB English Tutor will provide high-quality instruction and academic support to IB English students in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada, in a hybrid capacity with some work-from-home flexibility. This contract role involves planning and delivering lessons aligned with IB English curriculum requirements, including literature analysis, essay writing, and exam preparation. Day-to-day tasks include conducting individual or small-group tutoring sessions, offering feedback on written work, reinforcing English grammar and critical reading skills, and helping students develop strong communication and analytical abilities. The tutor will use both in-person and online platforms to deliver instruction, maintain records of student progress, and coordinate with families or the organization to ensure consistent, effective support.
Qualifications
- Strong English Teaching and Tutoring skills, with experience supporting middle and high school learners.
- Proficiency in Online Tutoring using virtual tools and platforms, with the ability to engage students in a remote setting.
- Solid command of English Grammar and literature, including essay structure, textual analysis, and academic writing conventions.
- Clear and professional Communication skills for working with students, families, and colleagues.
- Prior experience with IB English (Language and Literature or Literature) or similar advanced English curricula.
- Bachelor’s degree required; teaching certification or IB training is an asset.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including after-school or weekend hours, and to travel within the Greater Toronto Area as needed.
- Demonstrated patience, cultural sensitivity, and commitment to inclusive, learner-centered teaching.
