Opportunity Overview
GDC is seeking a visionary, growth-oriented Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership across our corporate portfolio. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the CEO will guide GDC through its next stage of commercial expansion, subsidiary profitability, and strategic relationship-building while ensuring all corporate actions honor Gitxsan traditional law, environmental stewardship (Laxhoosinxw), and the principles of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA).
Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Operational Growth: Lead the execution of GDC's strategic plan, driving business expansion, portfolio profitability, and operational performance across all operating subsidiaries.

Governance Duality & Cultural Alignment: Ensure corporate operations strictly adhere to Gitxsan traditional law (Ayookw) and environmental preservation (Laxhoosinxw), maintaining alignment with Board oversight, Hereditary Chiefs (Simgigyet), and community priorities.

Financial Stewardship & Risk Management: Oversee capital planning, annual budgeting, investment evaluations, joint ventures, and financial reporting in alignment with Board-approved Delegation of Authority frameworks.

Relationship & Community Leadership: Act as primary corporate ambassador, building trusted relationships with Gitxsan leadership, community members, industry partners, funding bodies, and government agencies.

Talent & Capacity Building: Foster a high-performing organizational culture focused on recruiting, mentoring, and advancing Gitxsan talent across all levels of the enterprise.
Qualifications & Executive Attributes

Leadership Experience: Minimum 5 years of progressive executive leadership experience (CEO, VP, or General Manager) within a growth-oriented enterprise, First Nations organization, or economic development corporation.

Cultural & Governance Competency: Deep competency in First Nations governance and Indigenous economic sovereignty, with a demonstrated commitment to integrating Gitxsan culture, traditional law, and community values into executive leadership.

Business & Financial Acumen: Success in corporate governance, financial stewardship, risk mitigation, joint venture negotiations, and multi-subsidiary operational management.

Education: University degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field (an equivalent combination of executive experience and training will be considered).
Work Arrangement & Travel
This role operates under a Hybrid Executive Model, blending flexible remote work with active, visible leadership across Gitxsan Lax'Yip. Requires approximately 1 to 2 weeks per month (25–30%) on the ground within the Hazelton, Terrace, Prince George, Prince Rupert, and Stewart operational corridors to align with Board meetings, site visits, and community milestones.
