We are on the lookout for an Event Server to join our team, where your âofficeâ is one of Nova Scotiaâs beautiful outdoor settings. As an Event Server, you will work collaboratively with your team to provide exceptional service and create a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for all members and guests.
This is a part-time term position extending into the fall, with the possibility of further extension. The successful candidate must be available to work mornings and afternoons.
How youâll spend your day:
- Set up function rooms in accordance with the banquet event order (BEO), including table linens, place settings, centerpieces, and service stations.
- Greet event guests promptly and professionally, presenting menus where applicable, offering cocktails and appetizers, and answering questions about the event, the menu, and Glen Arbour.
- Accurately take and relay food and beverage orders to the kitchen and bar, ensuring special dietary needs and requests are communicated clearly.
- Deliver plated, buffet, and family-style service to event guests in a timely and coordinated manner.
- Maintain table settings throughout the event by clearing courses, replenishing utensils, refilling drinks, and promptly addressing spills or special requests.
- Anticipate and respond to guest needs, ensuring an attentive and personalized experience that reflects the significance of each occasion.
- Support bar service during events, including pouring wine, serving cocktails, and managing host bars or cash bars as required.
- Assist with post-event tear down, including clearing tables, resetting the space, packing up rentals, and returning equipment to its proper location.
- Process payments for cash bars or additional charges, issue bills, and return change or credit card slips when applicable.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment that prioritizes timely, coordinated, and high-quality event service.
What will help you thrive:
- Minimum 2 years of serving experience in a hospitality setting.
- Must have a Valid Smart Serve certification for Nova Scotia or willing to obtain.
- Strong organizational skills for managing reservations and tables.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of food & beverage health and safety standards.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs and occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
