Databricks Engineer - ExpertLocation: Toronto, ON
Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid - Thursdays and 4th Friday of the month in office (may change due to business requirements)
Contract Details- Position Type: Contract
- Contract Duration: 6 months (with potential for extension; conversion to FTE is possible but no opening currently)
- Pay Rate: C$80.00–C$95.00 / Hour (CAD)
- Shift / Schedule: 37.5 hours/week, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday

Job SummaryThis role sits within the Global Asset Management Technology line of business, which supports institutional execution - the process by which asset managers carry out large-scale investment transactions on behalf of institutional clients. This involves optimizing trade strategies, ensuring best pricing, minimizing market impact, and adhering to regulatory requirements to achieve efficient and secure execution of investment decisions. The business is currently on a transformation journey and is open to exploring the advanced functionality of Databricks. The successful contractor will work on a daily basis with the Data Engineer Lead and client stakeholders, within a team composed of 1 Data Engineer Lead, 5 Senior Data Engineers, and 3 Client/PM members.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain solutions using ADF, Databricks, and Azure Functions (C#)
- Perform in-depth development using Python/notebooks on Databricks/Spark/Pandas
- Configure and manage Unity Catalog and data governance setup/configuration
- Load datasets from various sources using ADF to Databricks with Medallion architecture
- Convert Databricks workspaces from Hive Metastore to Unity Catalog and set up associated permissions
- Create delta table schemas/tables with proper design, properties, and security permissions
- Build and maintain DevOps and deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps/GitHub Enterprise for both ADF and Databricks
- Configure and manage Azure Entra ID for SSO/RBAC setup
- Work with and deploy to Azure PaaS resources such as Azure SQL PaaS, ADF/SHIR, ADLS, Databricks, and Synapse dedicated SQL databases
- Work independently and lead a small team
- Lead technical problem-solving sessions
- Work within a locked-down Windows environment for a highly regulated industry
Required Skills- 7 years of experience with ADF, Databricks, and Azure Functions (C#)
- In-depth development experience with Python/notebooks on Databricks/Spark/Pandas
- Expert working knowledge of Unity Catalog and data governance setup/configuration
- Experience loading datasets from various sources using ADF to Databricks with Medallion architecture
- Experience converting Databricks workspaces from Hive Metastore to Unity Catalog and setting up associated permissions
- Experience creating delta table schemas/tables with proper design, properties, and security permissions
- In-depth experience with Azure Entra ID for SSO/RBAC setup
- In-depth experience working with and deploying to Azure PaaS resources such as Azure SQL PaaS, ADF/SHIR, ADLS, Databricks, and Synapse dedicated SQL databases
- Familiarity working in a locked-down Windows environment for a highly regulated industry
- Proven ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Ability to lead a small team and technical problem-solving sessions

Preferred Skills- Experience with Delta Live Tables
- Financial Services Industry experience
- Previous experience at a major Canadian financial institution or in a similar financial services environment
Required Experience- 10 years of overall experience in a relevant data engineering capacity
- 7 years of hands-on experience with ADF and Databricks (must be proficient)
- DevOps and deployment pipeline experience using Azure DevOps/GitHub Enterprise for both ADF and Databricks
