VP Technical Projects / Technical Services
Location: Toronto, Canada, with regular travel to Lima and the Mine, Oyón Province, Peru
Reporting to: Chief Operating Officer (COO)
About the Role: We are seeking an experienced
VP Technical Projects / Technical Services to provide senior technical leadership for a 600 tpd underground silver-lead-zinc operation in
restart and ramp-up.
Based in Toronto and reporting directly to the COO, the successful candidate will spend approximately
one week per month in Lima and at the mine site in Peru, working closely with the operational and technical teams to strengthen mine planning, improve execution, and support the transition to a more mechanized mining approach.
This is a highly hands-on leadership role for a
builder who can establish, improve, and execute technical systems, rather than simply administer existing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and lead the integrated mine planning cycle, from short-term mine scheduling through medium-term planning and Life-of-Mine (LOM) strategy.
- Provide senior technical leadership during the restart and ramp-up of the underground operation.
- Lead and coordinate updates to NI 43-101 technical reports, including mine plans, production schedules, operating assumptions, and supporting technical analyses.
- Conduct ongoing technical and operational reviews to identify opportunities to improve productivity, mine design, costs, development rates, and operational performance.
- Lead the technical transition from cut-and-fill mining to mechanized bench-and-fill mining, including mine design, sequencing, equipment requirements, productivity assumptions, and implementation planning.
- Act as the principal technical partner to the COO on strategic mining and operational initiatives.
- Provide technical oversight and performance management of mining, drilling, and underground service contractors.
- Work closely with site management, engineering, geology, metallurgy, and operations teams to align technical plans with practical execution.
- Develop and implement fit-for-purpose technical services standards, planning processes, reporting systems, and performance metrics.
- Challenge existing assumptions and develop practical solutions to improve mine performance during ramp-up.
- Support capital planning, equipment selection, mine development strategy, production optimization, and other technical initiatives as required.
- Ensure technical work is delivered to appropriate professional, regulatory, safety, and reporting standards.
Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will be a senior underground mining professional with a demonstrated ability to operate effectively between
technical planning, mine operations, contractors, and executive leadership.
Required:
- University degree in Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- 12+ years of relevant mining experience, including substantial underground operating and technical experience.
- Significant experience working in Latin America, preferably in Peru or comparable jurisdictions.
- Full professional fluency in English and Spanish.
- Demonstrated experience with integrated mine planning, scheduling, mine design, and Life-of-Mine planning.
- Proven experience managing or overseeing mining contractors and technical service providers.
- Strong commercial and operational understanding, with the ability to translate technical plans into executable mine plans.
Strongly Preferred:
- Experience with epithermal, vein-hosted deposits.
- Direct experience with silver-lead-zinc operations.
- Previous experience with mine restarts, ramp-ups, or operational turnarounds.
- Experience transitioning underground operations from conventional cut-and-fill to mechanized bench-and-fill or similar mining methods.
- Experience preparing, reviewing, or updating NI 43-101 technical reports.
- Experience working in smaller or mid-sized mining operations where senior leaders are expected to be highly hands-on.
Leadership Approach: We are looking for a
builder, not an administrator of existing systems.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working at both the strategic and operational levels: developing the mine plan with senior management, reviewing schedules and designs with technical teams, challenging contractor performance, and spending time underground and in the field to ensure plans are translated into results.
The role requires a practical, entrepreneurial approach, strong technical judgment, and the ability to work effectively across cultures and functions.
Travel & Location: The position is
Toronto-based, with approximately
one week per month in Lima and at the Mine in Oyón Province, Peru, together with additional travel as operational requirements dictate.
