STRUCTURAL DESIGN ENGINEER
Victoria, BC
At Glotman Simpson, we've spent more than 60 years engineering some of North America's most impactful buildings. We believe exceptional engineering starts with exceptional people. People who are passionate about their craft, invested in their teammates, and driven to continually learn, grow, and improve.
We're looking for a Structural Design Engineer to join our Victoria team. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field while contributing to the design, coordination, and delivery of a diverse range of structural projects across Vancouver Island.
If you're curious, ambitious, and excited by the challenge of solving real-world construction and design challenges, we'd love to hear from you.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a Structural Design Engineer, you'll play a key role supporting both project delivery and construction-phase services while working alongside experienced engineers and project teams.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Design and analyze wood-frame, concrete, steel, and mass timber structures.
- Conduct field reviews and structural observations on a variety of projects, including concrete high-rise, wood-frame, institutional, steel, and mass timber buildings.
- Act as a key liaison between the design team and construction sites to facilitate communication and problem-solving.
- Review shop drawings, contractor requests, and RFIs while helping develop practical and constructible solutions.
- Prepare site instructions and construction-phase documentation.
- Support project engineers with project coordination, technical reviews, and design development.
- Assist in resolving field issues efficiently and collaboratively.
- Gain exposure to all stages of project delivery while developing technical expertise and professional judgment.
What Makes This Role Unique
The Victoria office offers a unique opportunity to build both field and design expertise while working on
some of Vancouver Island's most impactful projects. Unlike many early-career engineering roles that focus primarily on either design or site work, this position provides meaningful exposure to both, giving you a comprehensive understanding of how projects move from concept through construction.
You'll work directly alongside the Associate leading our Victoria office, providing a unique opportunity to learn firsthand from an experienced structural engineer and senior leader within the firm. Through this close collaboration, you'll gain valuable insight into project delivery, construction practices, technical problem-solving, and professional development.
For the right person, this environment provides significant opportunity to take ownership early, expand their responsibilities, and accelerate their professional development. It is an ideal fit for someone who enjoys variety, values hands-on learning, and wants to make a visible impact as part of a collaborative and growing team.
