The Health Analytics Branch provides population health information and analytical expertise to support health system planning, policy development, surveillance, and decision-making.
The branch works with complex health data to develop, maintain, analyze, and communicate information that supports understanding of population health, infectious diseases, health trends, and emerging public health issues across Alberta.

Role Responsibilities
Join a dynamic team supporting infectious disease surveillance and evidence-informed public health decision-making, where your data coordination, technical, and organizational expertise will help strengthen the consistency, quality, and reliability of public health analytics across Alberta.
Reporting to the Manager, Infectious Disease Epidemiology, the Surveillance Data Coordinator supports data management, documentation, coordination, and technical activities related to infectious disease surveillance and analytical modernization within Primary and Preventative Health Services. The position works closely with epidemiologists, data scientists, analysts, and leadership to organize analytical resources, coordinate data and reporting activities, and support the development and maintenance of internal and external surveillance products.
As a Surveillance Data Coordinator, you will support the transition and standardization of analytical processes and data resources in preparation for the modernization of health analytics, including the transition to Snowflake. You will help ensure analytical work is consistent, traceable, reproducible, and well documented by supporting documentation standards, metadata management, code maintenance, quality assurance, knowledge transfer, and coordination of surveillance activities. Success in this role requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a technical and collaborative environment.

Qualifications
University graduation in a related field, such as Data Science, Epidemiology, Analytics, Public Health or a related discipline, plus two years of progressively responsible related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in an analytics-related field, as described below.
Equivalency:
- One year of experience for one year of education OR
- One year of education for one year of experience.
The following experience is required:
- Coordinating multiple projects, priorities, and deliverables within tight timelines.
- Working with data, including preparation, validation, quality assurance, and reporting.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint.
A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
The following experience is considered as assets:
- Applying knowledge of database management and querying, including SQL and Snowflake.
- Experience using analytical software such as R and SAS.
- Experience with Git, Bitbucket, code reviews, and reproducible analytical workflows.
- Work using large or administrative health datasets.
- Experience with infectious disease surveillance systems and epidemiological methods.
- Experience developing technical documentation, metadata, data dictionaries, and analytical resources.
- Experience coordinating data requests, working groups, and stakeholder deliverables.

Hours of work are 08:15 AM to 4:30PM, Monday to Friday.
This is a full-time temporary position working 36.25 hours per week in downtown Edmonton.
