The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking a Manager, Resource Pathfinding to join the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment’s Mineral and Energy Strategy Division in Yellowknife.
This role leads the GNWT’s industry pathfinding program, helping resource proponents understand and navigate the regulatory, consultation and approval processes involved in responsible mineral and energy development in the Northwest Territories. It is a highly collaborative position that brings together regulatory expertise, Indigenous engagement, strategic advice and relationship building.
About the Role
Reporting to the Director, Mineral and Energy Strategy Division, you will lead a team providing strategic advisory services to resource proponents, investors and other partners. You will establish approaches for regulatory navigation and engagement, provide authoritative advice on complex resource-development requirements, and coordinate across GNWT departments, Indigenous governments and organizations, regulatory bodies, communities and industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the GNWT’s industry pathfinding program for mineral and energy development.
- Provide authoritative advice on regulatory, legislative and consultation requirements affecting resource projects in the NWT.
- Guide proponents through regulatory approvals, rights issuance, preliminary screening, environmental assessment and Indigenous consultation requirements.
- Build relationships and facilitate discussions among industry, Indigenous governments and organizations, communities, co-management boards and government partners.
- Identify regulatory, administrative and policy issues and provide strategic recommendations to senior management.
- Lead professional staff and manage unit work planning, performance, budgets and program delivery.
Qualifications
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
- A relevant bachelor’s degree, such as Geology, Law, Humanities or another relevant field, combined with five years of applied experience in a resource industry or working with resource industries from within government, and one year of supervisory experience.
- Other relevant fields may include Political Science, Indigenous Studies, Geography, Environmental Studies or Environmental Science, Business Administration or Management, Public Administration, Communications, Natural Resource Management, Earth Sciences, Economics and Social Governance.
Equivalent combinations may include:
- A relevant diploma combined with seven years of applied resource-industry experience and one year of supervisory experience; or
- Nine years of applied resource-industry experience and one year of supervisory experience.
- Other equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
