As this may be a term position, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval. Reporting to the Senior Instructor, Academic Studies, the Instructor, Academic Studies is responsible for delivering a variety of courses offered through the Academic Studies section at Nunatta Campus using a range of instructional approaches and adult education principles. The position works collaboratively with other instructors to ensure course delivery meets Nunavut Arctic College policies and standards while supporting learners in developing the knowledge and skills required for further post-secondary education and entry-level employment. Courses may be delivered within the Office Administration, Adult Basic Education, Essential Skills, College Foundation and other Academic Studies programs.
Responsibilities
Main responsibilities for the Instructor, Academic Studies include:
Planning and delivering courses using a variety of instructional strategies
Evaluating learner performance and maintaining academic and attendance records
Reviewing and updating course content, materials and learning activities
Developing learning materials that reflect the unique Nunavut context
Providing academic and career counselling to learners
Working collaboratively with instructors to support learner success and maintain academic standards
Contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of Academic Studies programs
Qualifications
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through:
Bachelor of Education with studies in a discipline appropriate to the Office Administration and/or College Foundation curriculum; and
Two (2) years of experience in the instruction and supervision of adult learners in a post-secondary setting; and
Cross cultural experience, preferably in the North.
This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
