What can you expect from this position?
Reporting to the Executive Director, Business Finance, the Director, Business Finance will lead the finance partnership for designated business units and corporate functions, overseeing financial planning, forecasting, performance management, and strategic decision support. You will lead a team of finance professionals and work closely with senior leaders to translate organizational priorities into financially viable plans, strengthen the connection between actual results and forecasts, and deliver executive-ready insights that support informed decision-making. You will also advance standardized reporting, financial models, key performance indicators, and analytical practices, helping shift the function from transactional reporting toward proactive, insight-driven business advisory.
As a Director, Business Finance, you will:
- Lead the complete financial planning cycle, including annual budgets, rolling forecasts, outlooks, and multi-year strategic plans, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
- Serve as a trusted finance partner to business unit and functional leaders, translating strategies and operational priorities into financially viable plans.
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations related to resource allocation, cost optimization, revenue growth, investment decisions, and financial performance.
- Develop and maintain driver-based financial models for revenue, operating costs, and capital programs to support forecasting, scenario analysis, and performance evaluation.
- Deliver timely financial reporting, variance analysis, dashboards, and executive-ready narratives for senior leadership and Board oversight.
- Standardize financial reporting, key performance indicators, planning frameworks, and performance-management practices across assigned business areas.
- Collaborate with Analytics team, IT and other functions to leverage technology to automate and streamline reporting and ensure single source of truth for management reporting
- Strengthen the connection between actual results and forecasts by improving data quality, forecasting accuracy, financial controls, and post-performance analysis.
- Collaborate across Finance and other corporate functions to support capital planning, strategic initiatives, risk assessment, governance, and enterprise decision-making.
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing finance team while championing financial literacy, process improvement, automation, and insight-driven ways of working.
This is the role for you, if you have:
- A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
- A CPA and/or CFA designation.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive finance experience, including at least seven years leading Financial Planning and Analysis or Business Finance teams.
- Demonstrated experience establishing planning, forecasting, performance-management, and reporting frameworks.
- A proven ability to deliver strategic financial advice and executive-level decision support in capital-intensive and/or regulated environments.
- Advanced financial modelling skills and experience with driver-based planning, scenario analysis, sensitivity analysis, and investment evaluation.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel, including Power Query and Power Pivot, along with experience using Power BI or equivalent visualization platforms and enterprise planning or resource-management systems.
- Strong executive communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear insights and recommendations.
- Demonstrated people leadership, coaching, stakeholder-influence, change-leadership, and cross-functional collaboration capabilities.
- Experience in airports, transportation, infrastructure, utilities, or the public sector is considered an asset.
- An MBA or master’s degree in a relevant field is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards, management discussion and analysis, procurement impacts, treasury, or capital markets is considered an asset.
- The ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position.
