Position Overview
The Banquet Server is responsible for providing efficient and courteous service to our guests. The server will provide our guests with hospitality providing prompt, efficient service of food and beverages in accordance with hotel policies and banquet event order standards.
Responsibilities
- Greet guests promptly and provide a warm, professional welcome.
- Maintains event area in clean and neat manner
- Maintains close communication and works cooperatively with Banquet leadership team, co-workers in a clear, business-like and respectful manner which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment to ensure consistency of services and the highest quality of operation.
- Monitor guest needs on a continual basis ensuring all requests will be promptly fulfilled
- Guides the guest through all phases of their experience in the banquet/event
- Sets up, monitors, refreshes and breaks down coffee breaks, receptions and meal periods for specific group functions
- Promptly removes dishes as guests complete their meal during any meeting or meal function
- Resets banquet rooms in preparation for the next function according to Banquet event orders
- Effectively communicates with the kitchen, catering coordinate and banquet staff
- Assist other banquet personnel with maintenance (side work, opening/closing duties as necessary)
- Familiar with various types of services – plated service, buffet service, receptions.
- Be aware of all Hotel Environment and Health & Safety Procedures including Emergency Evacuation
- Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage
- Ensure all AGLC and other provincial or federally mandated laws, policies and procedures are understood and adhered to, at all times.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with all guests, food and beverage staff and other hospitality departmental staff.
- Must report to work on time and in a clean uniform while maintaining proper hygiene and grooming at all times.
- Clearly communicate special requests, allergies, dietary concerns.
- Deliver food & beverage accurately, promptly, and according to restaurant standards
- Handle guest questions, concerns and complaints professionally and notify a manager as required
- Provide attentive service throughout the meal and respond to additional needs
- Ensure the cleanliness of working area is maintained at all times.
- Communicate effectively with hosts, bartenders, kitchen staff, managers and other servers.
- Participate in pre-shift meetings and training sessions
- Contribute to a positive, respectful and professional workplace
- Support set up and tear downs resetting for next shifts
- Ensure all items required at service stations, assist in opening and closing procedures.
- Assist maintaining all front of house inventory control levels to meet business volumes.
Education And Experience
- Requires a high school diploma.
- Valid Alberta Pro Serve Certification.
- Experience working with POS systems
- Food Safety certification is an asset
- Current First Aid certification is considered an asset
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- 1 – 2 years experience in a server capacity working in a fast-paced environment.
- Possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; strong verbal and written communication skills are required as well as attention to detail.
- Ability to work and thrive in a independent and team-oriented environment.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding area with a high-volume, multi-tasking environment.
- Must be available flexible shift-work. (days, nights, weekends, holidays)
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and work efficiently in a physical demanding, fast paced environment
- May require lifting weight of up to approximately 50 lbs.
