ADMS Test Manager
Lead testing from requirements to acceptance, helping utilities deploy ADMS solutions with confidence in operational readiness.
About the Company
Grid Transformation is a specialist electric-utility operational technology advisory firm. We help utilities turn grid-modernization strategy into operational reality across Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), Outage Management System (OMS), Distribution Management System (DMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS), and related capabilities. Our work spans strategy and roadmaps, vendor-neutral assessment, requirements and design, program delivery, testing, process engineering, change, deployment, and operational readiness. We bring a practical perspective grounded in how utilities plan, operate, restore, and modernize the distribution grid.
Job Description
We are seeking an ADMS Test Manager who can connect electric-distribution operations, delivery risk, and structured test management. You will work with control-room personnel, distribution engineering, IT/OT, business analysts, program teams, vendors, and systems integrators to plan and lead testing across ADMS, OMS, DMS, SCADA, and associated interfaces. The role combines utility-domain insight with strong test leadership and is suited to someone who is comfortable moving from test strategy and governance to detailed scenario reviews, defect resolution, and evidence-based readiness recommendations.
Develop and maintain the overall test strategy, phase-specific test plans, scope, schedules, resource needs, responsibilities, and reporting approach.
Define risk-based test priorities, entry and exit criteria, defect severity guidelines, acceptance evidence, and escalation processes with utility and delivery stakeholders.
Coordinate factory acceptance testing, system integration testing, site acceptance testing, user acceptance testing, regression testing, and operational readiness testing.
Lead and coordinate utility, vendor, and systems-integrator test teams; align responsibilities, dependencies, execution schedules, and deliverables.
Maintain traceability across requirements, business processes, designs, configurations, interfaces, test cases, results, defects, changes, and acceptance decisions.
Review test scenarios, scripts, expected results, and coverage for outage management, switching, network operations, alarms, telemetry, and advanced applications within project scope.
Coordinate end-to-end interface testing with GIS, AMI, customer information, workforce management, DERMS, and other connected systems as applicable.
Manage test-environment readiness, representative network models, test data, interface simulators, access, configuration baselines, and release controls.
Coordinate performance, load, resilience, failover, recovery, and security testing with specialist teams, using agreed criteria and representative operating conditions.
Lead defect triage, confirm reproducible evidence and operational impact, assign ownership, track resolution, and coordinate retesting and regression coverage.
Report test progress, requirement coverage, blocked execution, defect trends, residual risks, and readiness against agreed entry and exit criteria.
Assess requirement, design, model, interface, and release changes for their impact on test scope, regression needs, schedules, and operational readiness.
Support cutover rehearsals, rollback validation, controlled operational trials, go-live verification, and hypercare; ensure test execution follows approved operational controls.
Prepare test completion reports, acceptance evidence, and readiness recommendations; document unresolved defects and risk acceptance for decisions by authorized stakeholders.
Requirements
The successful candidate will bring a practical combination of utility knowledge, technical delivery experience, and client-facing communication:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in testing or quality assurance on ADMS programs for electric utilities, including experience leading test teams and managing test delivery.
Demonstrated experience developing test strategies and plans, coordinating multiple test phases, managing test teams, and reporting delivery risks and readiness.
Working knowledge of electric-distribution operations, including outage restoration, switching, network connectivity, telemetry, and control-room workflows.
Strong skills in requirements-to-test traceability, scenario design, coverage assessment, test execution management, evidence capture, and defect lifecycle management.
Experience coordinating utility teams, software vendors, and systems integrators through acceptance testing and defect resolution.
Understanding of ADMS interfaces, network-model and data quality dependencies, test environments, configuration management, and release controls.
Experience supporting integration, user acceptance, regression, and operational readiness testing, including realistic normal, abnormal, and storm scenarios.
Ability to coordinate non-functional testing, interpret findings with technical specialists, and explain their implications for utility operations.
Practical experience with test and defect management tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira with a test-management extension, ALM, or equivalent platforms.
Ability to distinguish failed functionality, data or model issues, environment limitations, requirement gaps, and change requests, and route each appropriately.
Excellent written and verbal communication, stakeholder management, analytical skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and confidence facilitating difficult defect and readiness discussions.
A degree in engineering, computer science, information systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Willingness to travel to client locations as project assignments require, including key acceptance, cutover, and go-live activities.
Exposure to FLISR, VVO/CVR, DERMS, operator training simulators, test automation, performance testing, or disaster recovery testing is an asset.
ISTQB or an equivalent testing qualification is an asset.
We welcome applicants with different backgrounds and career paths who can demonstrate the capabilities needed to succeed. If your experience does not match every listed asset, we still encourage you to apply and explain the perspective you would bring.
