Overview
The Senior Laser Operation Specialist is the primary technical expert for all laser processing, welding, and production operations within Group Six Technologies. This role maintains comprehensive knowledge of all production cells, equipment, setups, procedures, and quality requirements across the organization.
The Senior Laser Operation Specialist is responsible for independently setting up and operating any production cell, optimizing processes, troubleshooting technical issues, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and serving as the designated trainer for new and existing employees.
The successful candidate will be recognized as the organization's subject matter expert for laser operations and will play a critical role in maintaining operational excellence, workforce development, and production flexibility.
Core Responsibilities
- Independently set up and operate any production cell or manufacturing process
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment, tooling, and process issues across all cells
- Perform first-article inspections and ongoing quality verification
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Identify root causes of quality issues and lead corrective/preventive actions
- Develop and maintain standardized setup procedures and training materials
- Train employees on equipment operation, quality standards, and safe work practices
- Lead cross-training initiatives to build a flexible, multi-skilled workforce
- Support continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity
- Follow all safety policies, PPE requirements, and Alberta OHS regulations
Qualifications
- Journeyperson Welder, Machinist, Manufacturing Technician, or equivalent trade certification
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience with multi-process setup and troubleshooting
- Proven ability to train, coach, and mentor other employees
- Experience with laser welding, laser processing, or robotic/automated equipment (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Engineering Technologist or higher
- Experience developing standard operating procedures and training documentation
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement experience
- Forklift and overhead crane certification
- CWB certifications or other relevant manufacturing certifications
