Accountant
Job Type: Contract

Our client is a well-established property management and real estate organization with a strong reputation for delivering professional property and financial management services. They are seeking a detail-oriented entry-level Accountant to join their accounting team and support the day-to-day financial operations of the business.
Your New Role
As the Accountant, you will be responsible for a broad range of accounting and administrative functions that support the organization's trust accounting, accounts payable, tenant accounting, and financial reporting activities.
What You Need to Do
- Receive and process tenant payments, including EFTs and cheques, and post transactions to the appropriate accounts.
- Follow up directly on outstanding tenant balances and unpaid accounts.
- Maintain tenant charge and payment summary spreadsheets.
- Process invoices received via mail and email, upload to the accounts payable platform, code invoices, and coordinate approval workflows.
- Issue vendor payments through an automated accounts payable system.
- Assist with budget preparation and expense reconciliation processes in collaboration with Property Managers.
- Prepare and issue residential rent increase notices in accordance with applicable provincial legislation.
- Prepare and issue commercial rent increase notices based on lease agreements.
- Update tenant ledgers with applicable charges and adjustments.
- Prepare formal demand letters in accordance with commercial lease requirements.
- Complete trust account bank reconciliations and maintain accurate accounting records.
- Prepare and post general ledger journal entries.
- Make bank deposits as required.
- Assist with GST, TransLink Parking Tax Levy, and WorkSafeBC return preparation.
- Complete filing and general administrative duties while supporting additional accounting department needs.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
- Previous experience in an Accounting Clerk, Property Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, or similar accounting support role.
- Experience processing payments, maintaining tenant or customer accounts, and performing account reconciliations.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.
- Experience preparing journal entries and bank reconciliations.
- Proficiency with accounting software, automated AP platforms, and Microsoft Excel.
