Your New Company
Our client is a leading Canadian energy organization delivering complex in situ projects in Alberta. This opportunity supports field construction and quality activities at a major operating site, providing hands-on exposure to engineering, construction, quality assurance, commissioning, and project turnover in a safety-focused environment.
Your New Role
As the CSA Field Engineer & Quality Assurance Engineer, you will provide Civil, Structural and Architectural (CSA) engineering and quality support throughout construction. You will work closely with contractors, construction management, project teams, commissioning personnel, owner representatives, vendors, and the Engineer of Record to resolve technical and constructability issues, maintain quality requirements, and support safe, successful project completion and turnover.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide field engineering support, including responding to RFIs and field changes, reviewing shop drawings, interpreting drawings and specifications, and coordinating practical resolutions to construction issues.
- Support Installation Work Packages (IWPs), construction work packages, scope development, field-issued contracts, technical data requirements, and engineering package reviews.
- Review Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), construction quality procedures, QA exhibits, redlines, and turnover documentation for completeness and compliance.
- Perform field inspections, quality surveillance, audits, and ITP witnessing activities, identifying deficiencies and initiating Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where required.
- Lead construction and final walkdowns, support deficiency resolution, and verify completed work against engineering requirements, approved changes, and project documentation.
- Support mechanical completion and turnover, including closure of Field Change Notices (FCNs), Design Change Notices (DCNs), NCRs, and transfer of care, custody, and control activities.
Must-Have Requirements
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Alberta with the ability to authenticate professional work products.
- Civil, Structural and/or Architectural engineering experience supporting industrial construction or major capital projects.
- Working knowledge of Alberta and National Building Codes and their application to field construction.
- Demonstrated field engineering capability, including interpretation of engineering drawings, specifications, construction requirements, RFIs, and field/design changes.
- Experience with construction quality assurance, including Quality Plans, ITPs, NCRs, inspections, audits, surveillance, and deficiency management.
- Strong ability to work directly with contractors, construction teams, project management, commissioning personnel, and Engineers of Record in an active field environment.
Nice-to-Have Requirements
- Previous experience with in situ oil sands, upstream energy, heavy industrial, or comparable brownfield/greenfield projects.
- Experience with IWPs, mechanical completion, turnover packages, redline verification, and care, custody and control processes.
- Familiarity with field safety processes such as Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs), Critical Control Assurance (CCA), and contractor safety meetings.
What Success Looks Like
- Construction issues and field inquiries are resolved safely, practically, and promptly while maintaining engineering and code requirements.
- Quality documentation, inspections, deficiencies, NCRs, and field changes are progressively managed to avoid delays at completion and turnover.
- Construction packages and completed work move efficiently through walkdown, mechanical completion, and turnover milestones.
What You'll Get in Return
You will join a high-profile Alberta in situ project in a combined field engineering and QA capacity, with significant exposure across construction, engineering, quality, commissioning, and turnover. The role offers an 8x6 FIFO schedule, camp accommodations, flights from Calgary or Edmonton hubs, and site transportation, along with the opportunity to make a direct impact on safe, quality-focused project execution.
