Our client is seeking a Senior Produce Buyer who is fluent in Mandarin and/or Cantonese and has direct experience sourcing fresh produce.
This Senior Produce Buyer will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing a wide range of fresh fruits and vegetables to ensure consistent product availability, competitive pricing and strong category performance. The role will manage key supplier relationships, negotiate pricing and commercial agreements, evaluate new and existing vendors and secure reliable supply across both local and imported produce categories. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of produce markets, including seasonal availability, crop cycles, pricing fluctuations, product quality standards and consumer buying trends. Leveraging this market knowledge, the Senior Buyer will make strategic purchasing decisions, forecast demand, identify opportunities to optimize product assortment and margins and proactively mitigate supply risks. The role requires staying ahead of market conditions and industry trends to ensure the business remains competitive while delivering high-quality produce and driving sales growth and profitability.
As the ideal candidate, you will have a minimum of 3 years of buying experience within the grocery, food distribution or retail sector with direct responsibility for sourcing fresh produce (fruits and vegetables) being essential. You will possess strong supplier relationships within the produce market and a solid understanding of seasonal buying patterns, market trends, pricing fluctuations and supply dynamics. The successful candidate will be fluent in both English and Chinese, highly skilled in negotiation and analysis and have a strong commercial understanding of the produce industry, enabling them to make informed purchasing decisions that drive product availability, profitability and category growth.
