Hiawatha Group Inc. is a 100% Indigenous-owned infrastructure and construction company supporting major civil, energy, nuclear, and industrial projects across Ontario.
As our operations expand, we are seeking an experienced Construction Health & Safety Advisor to strengthen our safety culture, support project execution, and ensure our operations meet the demanding standards of Canada's leading infrastructure contractors and project owners.
The Opportunity
This position will work from our Toronto office and travel to active construction sites throughout Ontario.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing, implementing, and maintaining our Occupational Health & Safety Management System while providing hands-on support to field operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor project-specific Health & Safety Plans.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Develop and review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Safe Work Procedures, and site-specific safety documentation.
- Ensure compliance with Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable construction regulations.
- Support COR certification readiness and ISNetworld compliance.
- Coordinate worker orientations, training, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
- Support incident investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with project managers, supervisors, subcontractors, and client safety representatives.
- Maintain safety records and prepare documentation required by clients and project owners.
- Promote a proactive safety culture across all company operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of construction health and safety experience preferred.
- Experience on major civil, industrial, infrastructure, or energy projects.
- Nuclear construction experience is a strong asset, particularly with OPG or major nuclear construction contractors.
- Working knowledge of Ontario construction safety legislation.
- Familiarity with COR, ISNetworld, and contractor prequalification requirements.
- NCSO, CRSP, or equivalent safety designation preferred.
- Strong communication, leadership, and documentation skills.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
