Hilaka Contracting is looking for an experienced Vacuum Truck Operator to join our growing team in Fort St. John.
We are open to several working arrangements:
- Employee operating Hilaka equipment
- Independent subcontract operator operating Hilaka equipment
- Owner-operator supplying an appropriately equipped vacuum truck
Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, the selected working arrangement, and whether the successful applicant supplies a truck. Benefits are offered with eligible employee positions.

Responsibilities
- Safely drive and operate vacuum-truck equipment in oilfield and industrial environments.
- Load, transport, and unload fluids and other materials in accordance with company, client, and regulatory requirements
- Set up and operate hoses, pumps, fittings, and related equipment.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Identify and report mechanical issues, damage, and safety concerns.
- Keep the truck, cab, hoses, and associated equipment clean and ready for service.
- Complete driver logs, field tickets, inspection reports and other required documentation accurately
- Perform routine maintenance and minor troubleshooting within the operator’s capabilities.
- Follow Hilaka’s safety program and all client and site-specific requirements.
- Communicate professionally with dispatch, supervisors, customers, and other workers.
- Assist with site setup, cleanup, and related field duties when required.
- Work safely in changing weather, road, and field conditions.
Required Qualifications
- At least two years of recent vacuum-truck operating experience
- Previous oil and gas industry experience
- Valid Class 3 driver’s license with air-brake endorsement; Class 1 is an asset
- Satisfactory commercial driver’s abstract
- Current Standard First Aid
- Current Common Safety Orientation, or the ability to obtain it before beginning field work
- Working knowledge of vacuum systems, pumps, hoses, and basic truck maintenance
- Ability to complete paper and electronic documentation accurately
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
TDG, WHMIS, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, and Ground Disturbance certifications are considered assets.

- Safety-conscious, dependable, and punctual
- Experienced enough to work independently with minimal supervision
- Mechanically inclined and respectful of company and customer property
- Physically able to handle hoses, fittings, and other demanding field tasks
- Comfortable working outdoors throughout the year
- Available for extended hours, nights, weekends, and on-call work when required
- Willing to accept out-of-town assignments when required
- Professional when dealing with customers, dispatch, and other contractors
- A team player with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
Owner-Operator Requirements
Applicants who wish to supply their own vacuum truck must provide documentation showing the truck and business meet Hilaka’s safety, maintenance, insurance, and regulatory requirements. We will review equipment before finalizing an owner-operator agreement.

Compensation will be negotiated based on:
- Experience and qualifications
- Employee or subcontract arrangement
- Type of equipment operated
- Whether the applicant supplies a vacuum truck
- Scope and location of the work
Eligible employee positions include a benefits package. We will discuss complete compensation and contract details with qualified candidates.
