POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Project Manager(s), the Site Supervisor oversees the construction activities taking place on a worksite and is responsible for all aspects of project management on the jobsite, including planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the project from start to finish.
The Site Supervisor is a detail-oriented problem solver and a capable leader, able to work effectively with diverse project teams to achieve successful outcomes. This individual manages construction crews, inspects ongoing work, and ensures compliance with applicable legislation, building permits, and codes. They communicate with inspectors on building code compliance and assist with on-site inspections.
The Site Supervisor ensures that equipment is available on the worksite as needed and is in good working order, and is tasked with keeping project costs at or under budget. This role requires a strong dedication to health and safety in the workplace, ensuring that all workers and subcontractors perform their duties in accordance with Company and Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.
SHIFT STRUCTURE
IMPORTANT: This is primarily a night-shift role.
Night work (typically 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM) is a definite part of working at Bricon. It may not happen immediately, but all candidates must understand and accept that night shifts will be a regular part of this role, it is a matter of when, not if.
Day-shift projects occur occasionally but should not be expected as the norm.
Drive times to and from job sites can add 1 to 1.5 hours each way.
PROJECT PROFILE
Our typical projects are smaller retail and commercial builds lasting 6 to 12 weeks. Our larger projects range from $3 to $5 million in size and span 6 to 8 months. We are not a mega-project firm, candidates coming from $50M+ hospital, arena, or oil-and-gas backgrounds are typically not a fit for the scale and pace of our work.
Job Site Territory
- Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, and Niagara
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct work on all commercial and retail construction sites, ensuring compliance with design, project specifications, regulations, and safety codes.
- Read and understand drawings and specifications, including mechanical, electrical, and civil drawings, and translate architectural drawings into a working schedule.
- Aid in the planning, organizing, direction, control, and evaluation of construction projects on-site from start to finish, with regard to schedules, specifications, and budgets.
- Understand and interpret building codes, safety guidelines, and regulations for construction projects.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of construction project budget estimates; POs and labour costs.
- Develop construction schedules and monitor progress and schedule compliance.
- Keep Project Managers informed on project progress, issues, concerns, and delays.
- Document revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Participate in or lead project meetings with internal and external parties to monitor and report on construction progress.
- Assist Project Managers with progress reports, progress schedules to clients, and the timely resolution of contractual issues.
- Coordinate, direct, and monitor all construction workers on the worksite; allocate appropriate daily staffing levels to ensure schedule objectives are met.
- Ensure that required equipment and materials are available on-site each day; understand how construction equipment works for inspection, operation, and maintenance.
- Ensure that every worker has and properly utilizes the required PPE; replace worn or damaged PPE in a timely manner.
- Develop and implement quality control programs.
- Complete on-site administrative duties including timesheets, take-offs, purchases, change requests, daily logs, and any other documentation required.
- Perform regular safety inspections to ensure compliance by all workers with Occupational Health and Safety practices.
- Ensure compliance with Company, client, and project policies, procedures, and standards; address safety and other worksite concerns with sub-contractors and workers.
- Plan, execute, and monitor the construction plan, including all scheduling and logistics.
- Ensure accurate and timely project close-out, including scheduling and coordinating final site inspections and final sign-off letters.
KEY DELIVERABLES
- Monitor and direct construction activities to ensure schedules, milestones, budgets, and reporting timelines are met, and that construction activities conform accurately to plans and specifications.
- Effectively manage Quality Assurance initiatives and measurements, ensuring that all activities on construction sites are undertaken in full compliance with specifications, timelines, budgets, and health and safety policies and procedures.
- Accurately and in a timely manner, detail all required project-related documentation from start-up through close-out, including daily records and progress reports.
MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in the retail and/or commercial construction industry (non-negotiable).
• Project-scope familiarity in the $3 to $5 million range; candidates from multi-million-dollar, multi-year mega-project backgrounds are not a fit.
- English must be the candidate's primary language, or they must speak and write English fluently; strong written and verbal communication is essential.
- Valid Driver's Licence (Class G required). Class A or restricted Class A required if towing a vehicle over 4,600 kg.
- Own reliable vehicle to get to and from job sites (mileage is reimbursed).
- Strong functional and technical skills, including proficiency with modern technology (cell phones, tablets, downloading apps).
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Build (formerly PlanGrid), Gmail, Google Suite, Google Calendar, Microsoft Suite, and MS Project. Daily reports required; must be responsive to email. Autodesk Build can be taught to the right candidate.
- Ability to work from a PDF schedule, build out a schedule, and input into MS Project.
- Understanding of building codes, safety guidelines, and construction regulations.
- Ability to manage and measure work, solve problems, and direct others effectively.
- Comfort with a primarily night-shift schedule (9:00 PM to 5:00 AM), with occasional day-shift projects.
- Ability to read mechanical, electrical, and civil drawings and build a schedule based on an architectural drawing.

TRAINING REQUIRED
- Fall arrest and Working at Heights certification.
- Construction Association Construction Supervisor training course.
- How to read the Green Book.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary Range
- $80,000 to $90,000 to start, could go to 100 – 110K depending on level of experience.
- Contract options available for the right candidate
