Company Description HITE Services Ltd is a specialized crane and lift equipment inspection facility employing certified crane inspectors, licensed Millwrights, Electricians, Overhead Crane Technicians, Heavy Equipment and Truck/Coach mechanics, and other technical professionals. The company focuses on inspection and certification of lift equipment, supported by non-destructive and visual inspectors and an independent Professional Engineer in Ontario. HITE Services offers operator training through in-class and hands-on courses that can be customized and delivered either at their training facility or at client sites. The rigging department provides sales, inspection, and repair services for a wide range of rigging products, supported by a pull tester at the Sudbury location. Additionally, HITE Services maintains a large fleet of cranes, boom trucks, manlifts, forklifts, and related heavy equipment available for rent or purchase.
Role Description The Crane Technician role is a full-time, on-site position based in Timmins, ON. The Crane Technician will inspect, maintain, and repair cranes and related lifting equipment, ensuring safe and reliable operation in accordance with company standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable regulations. Daily tasks include performing routine and preventative maintenance, diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, completing detailed service reports, and communicating findings and repair recommendations to supervisors and clients. The role also involves field service work at customer locations, assisting with equipment installation and commissioning, and supporting inspection and certification activities. The Crane Technician will collaborate closely with other technicians and inspectors to prioritize safety, minimize equipment downtime, and deliver high-quality service.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of lifting equipment, including cranes and associated rigging, and ability to work safely with overhead and mobile lifting systems.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on cranes and heavy equipment.
- Experience in field service work, including on-site inspections, diagnostics, and repairs at customer locations.
- Skills in equipment maintenance, including preventative maintenance, repair, and documentation of service activities.
- Relevant trade certification (e.g., Millwright, Electrician, Heavy Equipment Technician) or equivalent practical experience in crane or lifting equipment service.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and schematics.
- Strong attention to safety, adherence to regulatory requirements, and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally for field service assignments.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently in an industrial environment.
