What we need you to bring.
Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic
Senior Engineer – Performance. Your role involves developing, running, analysing and validating results of the platform performance models for the purposes of creating / monitoring adherence to design targets. Your role will be pivotal in determining our platform’s performance possibilities, and you will support the design team with creative ideas to increase performance.
As we’re a small team, there is significant scope for you to advance your career and learn about adjacent disciplines.
Your Day-to-Day
- Develop and run aircraft performance models
- Analyse performance predictions and suggest design improvements to the wider team
- Determine platform- and system-level requirements that will ensure that aircraft performance is achieved
- Ensure adherence to certification requirements, and define critical failures for certified minimum performance
- Produce the information required (such as appropriate flight test points) for demonstrator and certification programmes, including for the AFM and operational documentation
- Propose and develop computerised performance tools for operational use
- Integrate performance aspects into navigational procedures and energy reserve planning
- Support the sales process by generating brochure- and guarantee-level performance
- Participate in trade studies which assess the impact of aerodynamic, propulsion, structural, and systems changes on aircraft performance
- Challenge the status quo, bring new ideas to improve engineering quality, productivity and timeliness of delivery
- Stay up to date with and implement the latest developments in your field. Be active in industry forums to drive rulemaking where possible
- You may have skills, talents and experiences outside of those required for your direct role that will be useful to the rest of the team and also there will be times when it’s all hands-on deck and you may be asked to pick-up new tasks: enthusiastically offer help where it will bring value.
- Drive the continuous improvement of our processes to increase safety and efficiency
Ideal Candidates Will Have The Following Qualifications And Experiences
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in aircraft performance analysis, flight sciences, aerodynamics, or aircraft design.
- Strong understanding of aircraft performance principles and flight mechanics.
- Experience performing performance analyses for fixed-wing aircraft, rotorcraft, eVTOL, or unmanned aerial systems.
- Knowledge of FAR/CS Part 23, Part 25, Part 27, Part 29, or equivalent certification standards.
- Experience with aerodynamic analysis methods and propulsion system integration, including the generation of engine performance data
- Familiarity with aircraft simulation environments and digital engineering workflows.
- Proficiency with engineering analysis tools and data processing software.

Location.
This role will be based in the Montreal area, with occasional travel to our main hangar in Lindsay, Ontario required. We offer relocation allowances in appropriate cases.
