Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a high-potential Junior Accountant to join the Finance team of a Canadian fintech company operating across wealth management. This is an opportunity to build a strong accounting foundation in a public company environment while gaining hands-on experience across accounts payable, wealth accounting, and month-end close.
Working directly with the Controller and Finance Manager, you will learn how accounting decisions support financial reporting, business planning, and leadership decisions. You will take ownership of meaningful work from day one, with guidance from experienced CPA-designated professionals who are committed to your development.
The role is well suited to an aspiring accountant who wants to grow beyond routine transaction processing, pursue their CPA designation, and build a long-term career in finance.
Responsibilities
- Manage accounts payable activities, including vendor invoices, payment runs, and electronic funds transfers.
- Maintain accurate vendor records and banking details while following payment controls and approval procedures.
- Review transactions for errors or unusual activity and raise concerns before payments are processed.
- Complete daily and month-end bank reconciliations across multiple accounts.
- Post fund accounting entries and support monthly reconciliations for wealth management accounts.
- Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation in line with accounting policies and reporting requirements.
- Support IFRS-compliant accounting for fund structures under the guidance of the Finance Manager.
- Complete assigned month-end close tasks accurately and on schedule.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
- Respond to vendor payment questions and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Document accounting procedures and help improve the consistency of team processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, including NetSuite and AI-assisted accounts payable processes.
- Support audit requests and follow up on outstanding items to keep reporting activities on track.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with an accounting major, or equivalent education.
- Eligible to enter the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP). Applicants should confirm they meet the academic prerequisites before applying.
- Strong commitment to completing the CPA designation, which is a condition of employment.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to verify figures against source documents and systems.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to meet recurring deadlines.
- Sound judgment and a willingness to flag discrepancies or ask questions when something does not look right.
- A proactive approach to learning, problem-solving, and following through on commitments.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and external vendors.
Remuneration
- Base salary up to $60,000 CAD, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Performance-based bonus.
