The HR Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the organization’s people operations by assisting with day‑to‑day HR activities and ensuring smooth, compliant, and consistent HR processes. Working in‑office and reporting to the Director of Academic Operations, this role supports HR functions across multiple projects, supports managers throughout the organization, and collaborates closely with hiring managers. This is an early‑career HR generalist role supporting a full range of people operations, with hands‑on responsibility for recruitment, onboarding, salary benchmarking, policy review, performance management, terminations, and OHS coordination - ideal for someone building their HR career.
This is a full-time position, based out of Academy Canada’s St. John’s office.
Essential Job Functions:
- Support hiring managers with job postings, screening, interviewing coordination, reference checks, and candidate communication.
- Conduct market research using tools and salary databases to recommend competitive compensation ranges.
- Manage onboarding through the online learning system, ensuring new hires complete required training and documentation.
- Ensure all HR policies are reviewed annually; prepare recommendations for revisions and present them to senior leadership.
- Assist managers with goal‑setting, documentation, and performance review processes.
- Coordinate offboarding tasks, documentation, and compliance requirements.
- Own the occupational health & safety function, including campus walkthroughs, reporting, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Provide guidance on recruitment processes, documentation, and HR best practices.
- Maintain accurate HR records, files, and documentation in accordance with legislation and internal policies.
- Provide general HR administrative support to the CEO and senior staff as required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 1–3 years in an HR capacity (co‑op, internship, or early‑career HR roles considered).
- Strong understanding of HR fundamentals, employment legislation, and confidentiality requirements.
- Excellent communication, organization, and relationship‑building skills.
- Ability to work independently while receiving guidance from senior leaders.
- Comfort navigating HR systems, online learning platforms, and recruitment tools.
