Halifax Tides FC is a founding club of the Northern Super League (NSL), Canada's professional women's soccer league. The Tides are a sports and entertainment company built on four core values (Ambition, Excellence, Impact and Legacy), with a mission to raise the standard of women's sport, grow the club, and unite Atlantic Canada behind its team. Rooted in the region and driven by the tide, the club is building a business that is as competitive and sustainable off the pitch as its squad is on it.
Summary
The Chief Business Officer (CBO) owns every revenue stream at Halifax Tides FC (sponsorship, ticketing, merchandise, and food and beverage) and carries full P&L accountability for those lines of business. Reporting to the President and sitting on the club's Executive Leadership Team alongside the sporting leadership, the CBO sets the commercial strategy, builds and leads the revenue team, and turns a passionate and growing fan base into a durable, diversified revenue engine.
This is a builder's role. The right leader will bring the discipline to run a tight P&L and the entrepreneurial energy to open new revenue opportunities in a league and market that are still being defined.
Responsibilities
Revenue Leadership and P&L
- Own the P&L for sponsorship, ticketing, merchandise, and food and beverage, including revenue targets, cost of sales, margin and operating expenses for each line.
- Develop and deliver the annual revenue budget and multi-year commercial plan, aligned with the club's strategic plan and financial goals.
- Establish revenue forecasting, pricing governance and timely performance reporting for the President, the Finance & Audit Committee and the Board.
- Implement the processes, systems, tools and data needed to manage and scale the club's revenue operations, including CRM, ticketing and point-of-sale platforms.
- Identify and evaluate new revenue opportunities, such as premium experiences, events, digital products and non-matchday use of club assets.
Sponsorship and Corporate Partnerships
- Lead the club's partnership strategy, from Principal Partner through to official suppliers and community partners.
- Prospect, negotiate and close new partnership agreements, and drive renewals and upsell across the existing partner portfolio.
- Oversee partner servicing and activation so that every partner receives measurable value, with clear reporting on delivery and return on investment.
- Develop the club's inventory, valuation and pricing of partnership assets across matchday, broadcast, digital, community and brand platforms.
Ticketing and Hospitality
- Set ticketing strategy and pricing, including season tickets, memberships, single-match, group and dynamic pricing.
- Grow and retain the season ticket base, with a focus on renewal rates, attendance and fan lifetime value.
- Design and sell premium and hospitality products that deliver exceptional matchday experiences for guests and partners.
- Manage the ticketing platform and partner relationships, and use fan data to inform sales, marketing and service decisions.
Merchandise and Retail
- Lead the club's merchandise business across e-commerce, matchday retail, pop-ups and wholesale and retail distribution.
- Oversee product range, assortment, sourcing, inventory management and supplier and licensing relationships to protect margin and brand quality.
- Expand distribution channels across Atlantic Canada and beyond, in step with the club's brand and audience growth.
Food and Beverage
- Own the club's food and beverage revenue and the commercial relationship with venue, concession and catering partners.
- Shape the matchday food and beverage offer, pricing and service model to grow per-capita spend while improving the fan experience.
- Ensure food and beverage operations meet licensing, safety and regulatory requirements.
Fan Experience and Marketing Alignment
- Partner with the marketing and communications team to align campaigns, brand initiatives and digital engagement with revenue goals.
- Collaborate on matchday operations so that the fan experience drives attendance, spend and loyalty.
- Work with the sporting leadership to align commercial programs with the team's on-field priorities and player commitments.
Revenue Team Leadership
- Build, lead and develop a high-performing revenue team across partnerships, ticketing, retail and food and beverage.
- Lead recruitment, role design, goal-setting, performance evaluation and retention for the revenue team.
- Set a culture of accountability, collaboration and service that reflects the club's values.
- Manage relationships with external commercial suppliers and agencies supporting the revenue functions.
Qualifications
- 8–10+ years of senior leadership experience with a proven record of growing revenue sustainably and managing a P&L.
- Demonstrated success in sponsorship sales and partnership management, with strong negotiation skills.
- Experience across ticketing, retail and/or food and beverage operations; experience in sport, entertainment, live events or hospitality is a strong asset.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, pricing and margin management.
- Track record of building and leading high-performing sales and service teams.
- Experience implementing commercial systems and using data to drive decisions.
- Passion for soccer and women's sport, and an understanding of the Atlantic Canadian market, are assets.
