Job Title: Financial Reporting Analyst
Location: Calgary
Reports to: Corporate Controller
Reporting to the Corporate Controller, and working closely with the Financial Accounting team, this position is suited to an individual who can operate efficiently and accurately in a high-volume environment. Strong knowledge of oil and gas production terminology and accounting processes, along with effective communication and organizational skills, are critical to success in this role.
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and MD&A in compliance with IFRS, applicable securities regulations, and internal governance standards.
- Prepare and enhance monthly internal management reporting packages, including analysis of key performance indicators, variances, and operational metrics.
- Prepare capital expenditure entries including monthly accruals, materials transfers and cost movements.
- Prepare the monthly capital reporting schedule and variance analysis, comparing expenditures to forecast and budget.
- Prepare ESTMA, Statistics Canada, and other external filings.
- Perform account reconciliations and support the month-end and quarter-end financial close process.
- Support internal and external audit processes, including preparation of audit schedules and working papers and timely response to auditor requests.
- Assist with technical accounting research and the application of new and evolving accounting standards and regulatory pronouncements.
- Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules for accruals, depletion, and other period-end adjustments.
- Support Canadian tax compliance activities, including coordination with external tax advisors.
- Support the maintenance of general ledger integrity and assist in the establishment and enforcement of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Support continuous improvement in financial systems and reporting processes, including ERP optimization (Qbyte FM).
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting or financial reporting experience; oil & gas industry experience is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and industry-specific accounting (e.g. depletion, impairment, joint venture accounting).
- Experience with financial systems and ERPs (e.g. Qbyte FM, Microsoft 365 suite) is an asset.
- High proficiency in Excel, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate financial data into clear, organized materials.
- High degree of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- A self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision while supporting a team environment.
