I.M. Industries Ltd. is a well-established custom metal fabrication company specializing in fabrication, welding, plasma/waterjet cutting and forming/bending. We are currently seeking a Junior Draftsman & Estimator to join our growing team. This role is ideal for a motivated individual looking to build hands-on experience in drafting, estimating, and fabrication support within a fast-paced industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with both Tekla Structures and Autodesk AutoCAD
- Develop and prepare detailed designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, specifications, and other data
- Create fabrication-ready drawings and complete report packages
- Produce accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) for estimating and job costing
- Assist with project estimating based on drawings and BOMs
- Interpret and apply welding symbols correctly
- Read and interpret drawings using both Imperial and Metric measurements
- Collaborate effectively with drafting, estimating, and shop personnel
- Report directly to the Drafting Manager / General Manager
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience with Tekla Structures
- Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
- Strong understanding of welding symbols and fabrication drawings
- Ability to visualize three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawings
- Solid knowledge of drafting terminology, practices, and techniques
- Project estimating and job costing experience from BOMs
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access), Outlook, and Teams
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with all levels of staff
Qualifications
- Completion of a 2-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Engineering Design & Drafting Technology from a recognized institute (e.g., NAIT or equivalent)
- Technical or other relevant post-secondary training (or higher)
Additional Requirements
- Must have own reliable transportation
- Must be proficient in reading both Imperial and Metric Tape measure.
- Understanding/background in steel and sheet metal fabrication industry
